Parcel Delays - Brexit and Covid

Post by NickRMCustomer »

Hi All,

A general question to longer-standing members of this forum.

To what extent have you seen longer delays in deliveries from the EU or overseas, since Brext (1 January 2021) or the start of the Covid Pandemic?

My personal experience is that although RM adopted Covid measures, the post did keep moving during 2020, but I have seen a dramatic slow down since the beginning of this year.

Has anyone had similar or different experiences?

100%.

It seemed to me as an Admin here that the delays really kicked in when Brexit hit, I think it's getting better now, except for USPS who are having huge problems domestically which appears to be affecting international to some degree.

Hello @TrueBlueTerrior,

It is not just me noticing this them.

Yes, I agree USPS have been having long delays during the pandemic, and they rely on so many supply partners, a USPS parcel from the USA to UK can often be tracked through five different delivery organisations.

Although Royal Mail has slowed down, they do seem to be getting post through the checks with customs charges where applicable, unlike ParcelForce where I have found parcels that might have been due a customs charge have simply vanished.

Do you know why companies such as DHL are handing mail over from EU Countries to Parcel Force in the UK rather than delivering it directly? Is this because of Customs checks? Are companies such as DHL unable to carry out the Customs checking process?

Do they, are they?

Wouldn't be a customs thing as if it has to go through customs then it has to go through regardless who is delivering it.
'Possibly' palming it off because the can't deliver it?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Oh, I see. That's interesting then, so DHL and PostNL leave Germany or Netherlands, track all the way to the UK where they go into the ParcelForce system now - I assumed it was a Brexit change, but perhaps it is increased demand and DHL, etc., are handing over. I wonder if there is a long-term agreement in place for this arrangement?
