Re: Sunday Deliveries to commence
Will people be allowed to work 7 days/week?
I thought the WTD didn't allow this.

They should, as working 7 days a week is against Employment Law.

What happens if there is a serious accident and fatigue is partly to blame?
I sometimes can't believe I work in a FTSE top 250 company.
BooHoo are probably paragons of virtue compared to the Mickey Mouse practices of RM.

It wasn't rolled into supermarkets. If it is not then it will be negotiated not like supermarkets rolled in.
It's done by incentive payments and Sunday only staff, it kind of has to be because legally all shop workers can opt out of Sunday working as long as they give 3 months notice.
In a way they're better protected than we are.
Anyway I'll ask again, are the negotiations on Sunday payment still ongoing?

My gut feeling is that eventually all staff will do Sundays at some point, probably on rotation

That'll probably be about the same time that any enhanced payment or pay rates for Sunday working will be negotiated away in return for a lump sum or higher percentage pay rise that year.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Mar 2021, 19:33My gut feeling is that eventually all staff will do Sundays at some point, probably on rotation
No point in paying the workers extra to do Sundays if they're going to be working them anyway..

Re: Sunday Deliveries to commence
I would have thought the Long Term aim of the Business would be to recruit New Starters with the proviso that they had to work Sundays.
That way RM could probably take the hit of paying extra, to encourage current staff to man the shortfall, until they had enough of these New Starters. Then the rug would be swiftly pulled away.
No thoughts on how that would then effect the current duty structure in a DO. I'm sure they find a solution?

The Working Time Directive and the Royal Mail and CWU working time directive agreement which is part of the Way Forward says :
Individuals should have 24 hour break from work every seven days and if they don’t in the first week they have to have a 48 hour uninterrupted break in the second week.

This is routinely ignored now.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 14:32Individuals should have 24 hour break from work every seven days and if they don’t in the first week they have to have a 48 hour uninterrupted break in the second week.
It will be routinely ignored in the future. (Along with so many other things)
Why do we bother having national agreements?
