Wrong postcode by last 2 letters

Post by lizardz10 »

I have a parcel thats been mailed to me on friday 26th Feb but I accidentally put my old postcode.

The old postcode however is only 1.4km away so for example my old postcode is CB8 7NP and my new postcode is CB8 7ES. I put my new address but instead of the postcode ending in ES I put NP.

It was a small 1st class parcel with no return address and everytime I've ordered before it has come NDD. I even ordered another parcel from the same place with the correct postcode the next day and that one came NDD.

Will my package still arrive? I've been told it would just take an extra day at the sorting office but it still hasn't come. There is no tracking on it and there is no return address either.

Please can someone chime in with some good news? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 1st 3 are the main ones, it will still get there.
Rule of thumb there should not really be a mass delay.

They mailed it on Friday the 26th and it's 1st class.

They mailed another one on Monday 1st to the correct address with correct postcode and it arrived Tuesday 2nd. Hence why I'm starting to get worried as it still hasn't come today on the 3rd March.

Is it worth trying to get in contact with my local sorting office or would they not have any information on it?

Thank you for the fast reply @POSTMAN, it meansca lot. I just dont want to get my hopes up if its lost for good

They won't have any information on it.

Because the Post Code was marginally wrong it may delay its progress through the mail centres. But when it gets to the Delivery Office local knowledge will kick in and it will be delivered.

Just an insight to finish though with the covid surge happening, and absences because of it at various points in the network there are delays. It's a bit patchy and can change from day to day so it's entirely possible for one item to go through normally, whilst another item posted the same day can take longer than usual.

Can it really delay it by that long? The item was posted 1 week ago today and didn't arrive yesterday...Im going to the delivery office this morning to see if they can help.

The same seller sent me a similar package on monday that arrived tuesday which makes me think that the seller is somewhat close? Or can it really take over a week to sort one little 1st class package with a slightly wrong postcode?

Im starting to lose faith and think it will be lost for good, thank you guys for the replies! What should I do on my end as of now?

I just spoke to my local delivery office who said that it's probably been sent to some return office in Belfast that doesn't have a phone number. They were actually really helpful and he got the delivery man for my village to come speak to me.

He said that he was on holiday on the Saturday it was meant to be delivered and if he saw it he recognised Ed my name add would deliver it. He even went and checked and brought me a different package that was meant to be delivered today.

The package doesn't have a return address on the insdde or outside...so I take it the parcel will be destroyed now after a few weeks in Belfast 😢

Does this mean I'm s**t out of luck and it'll be

You should be able to get the parcel back if you submit a P58inland claim form (or even better, if the seller does it). That should allow the National Returns Centre to reunite you with you parcel. Might take weeks or months, but still a good chance of getting it eventually.

It was just a first class stamp though and there was no tracking.

I was under the impression that if I did a p58 the best I would get was reimbursement for the first class postage stamp?

None of this makes sense.

If you could, can you tell us what the proper postcode should be and what the wrong post code you put on.Private message if you want.

My point is...
27 buckingham road sw1 1aa is the correct address.
27 buckingham road sw1 1bc was the wrong address.

The packet would still get to it's destination as the packet would still go to the correct postman's walk because of 'buckingham road'.
Posties in offices do not sort by post code, they sort by road.

The mail centre peeps would know where it goes as well because of the 'sw1' part.

No way should this of gone to Belfast, and the postie you spoke to should of known this.

It is lost, but yes still do what Snagglebooth says with the P58 form just in case.

I have previously used an incorrect postcode on a letter. It added an additional weeks delay to delivery. As long as the address is fine a RM employee should notice the error.
