Overseas shipping paid at source qusetion

Post by buglecall »

I have tried to find this out on RM website with no luck AND my local PO did not know.
I want to buy a printed curcuit board from a vendor in China. Its a electronics company and says it registered in the UK for VAT/DUTY and this is paid at source when ordering,so thats easy for me.
So i will go with Royal Mail Airmail option over the DHL/FED EX .
What i can not find out is on the initial shipping cost will this include handling charge? It clearly says tax/duty paid no mention of handling. This could really effect the cost. The item is around £35.
Any info would really help,thanks

Surley an item for just £35 from China would not incur any extra tax or any kind of handling charge.

https://transferwise.com/gb/import-duty/from-china
Random website but it says it how it is.

Any goods under £135

No charge

Hello, Thanks for the reply. I found info site very confusing.
A site like the one you link says that the £135 has been scraped and tax/duty is paid on everything up to apx£800 now,the something else starts?
But its the handling i am concerned about, another similar site said that everything regardless of cost goes through customs and this is what the handling charge is,this varies with RM and DHL,FEDEX etc.
If its £35 or £350 it still gets handled through customs.
I was hoping that paying at source would cover everything,so i have no nasty surprises.
I had to buy some special size screws from China several years ago, was about £2, the plastic bag was tiny,as big as the label, had to pay RM £10 or £12 before i could have it.

My kids buy stuff from China and have never had a handling charge, and they spend more than £35.
I personally think you're panicking for no reason, and the regarding £2 buy, you just got unlucky.
We (Royal Mail) have tons AND tons of stuff from there no problem.
