"Item despatched to Royal Mail" for 3 days

Post by jamestomjames11 »

Hi,

I placed an order on Wednesday that I really needed to arrive before Sunday. To be safe I paid an extra £8 for next day delivery (Royal Mail Tracked 24) on the website as the standard delivery was between 2-5 days. My delivery was due to arrive Thursday but since Thursday morning the only update on the tracking website is "Item despatched to Royal Mail" and "Sender despatching Item". I contacted the company I got the item from and they said they posted it on Thursday morning so I don't see why Royal Mail haven't got it yet? I understand there is a pandemic but why let me pay for premium fast delivery if it's not going to be fast at all. It's now looking like Monday or Tuesday will be the earliest it will be delivered (if I'm lucky) a whole 5 days after I placed the order, which is what the cheapest standard delivery quoted me as the latest it would be delivered. I really don't understand why I was charged £8 for next day delivery if they are too busy to actually be able to deliver on time, just charge me less and tell me it will take longer?

For Royal Mail Tracked 24 is not a next day service, also without a tracking number it's difficult to advise anything. However to answer a few points.

Special Delivery is the only guaranteed Next Day Delivery service that Royal Mail has.

As to the issues of why you paid them for a premium service that's not something we can answer, it's up to the sender to apply delivery costs and then select appropriate services for their customers.

Please also remember we are not an official site, and any comment made is in a private capacity and should not be considered as coming from Royal Mail in any capacity.

Why call it 24 tracked if it's not a next day service?

The point is I wouldn't have ordered this item if I knew it would take 5 days. I paid specifically so that it would arrive in time. Why offer a service that says "Due by Thursday" that then doesn't arrive by that day. I understand that there is a backlog of items for Royal Mail to go through, but my point is why offer a 24 tracked service if they don't have the ability to deliver on time at the moment. If I had seen that the delivery date could've been Monday or Tuesday instead of Thursday, Friday or Saturday then I wouldn't have ordered it and that would've been fine. But when I placed the order it said it would be delivered by Friday at the latest. It's just incredibly frustrating to see no update on the tracker other than the original "Sender despatching item".

You need to take this up with the seller. If they said they would get it to you in a certain time then they have to do that, and up to them to chase their sub-contractor (Royal Mail) and refund you if they don't achieve what they contracted with you.
