Re: New shift patterns?
like i say maybe to tricky to work out but there must be someone out there that could make up some decent work patterns that would suit most possibly if they offered 3 or 4 vrs in each office would create an opportunity to make it work so they could employ new staff on shorter shifts

Re: New shift patterns?
Maybe the revisions will include Sunday shifts so we only get the hour if we get Sunday covered at no extra cost to the office budget,

Unfortunately it isn't that simple.comeracing wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 22:12Be fantastic for me mon - thur 9 1/2 hours a day wouldn't bother me at all over them 4 days
You have to be able to fill 9 1/2 hours with work.
Not what we think is 9 1/2 hours but what the computer thinks.
A big chunk of that will be outdoors.

Re: New shift patterns?
May I humbly remind you that they can make you do it. I had to work Sundays many years ago and with less than £13 an hour!number one wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 20:03Then you recruit more people that want to do it. This “you will HAVE to do it” is just nonsense doom and gloom rubbish.

Re: New shift patterns?
Will have to see what happens with regard to if they manage to make the switch to parcels only on saturdays as one person can cover several rounds worth of parcels
Might be a few different options:
Monday to friday 3 weeks out of 4 then perhaps having to do another week with 2 days off from Mon-Fri then working Saturday or sunday
Perhaps working Monday to friday one week then working say saturday on the 2nd week and sunday on the 4th and having a different day off them weeks
Also can depends on different peoples lifestyle preferences i for one would probably prefer to work 3 out of 4 sundays instead of saturdays as i prefer my sporting saturdays

They wont give a thump what suits you, or Harry or Bob or Susan, they will do what suits the business and is equal for all staff, the full time and part time staff will probably be put into equal groups (ie 20 part time, 5 full time in each group) and then run with a 4 on 4 off system. Each group will also rotate or float around each of those jobs so as the company can cover in any circumstance. No one will have a set duty.paul1231 wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 00:33Will have to see what happens with regard to if they manage to make the switch to parcels only on saturdays as one person can cover several rounds worth of parcels

Re: New shift patterns?
I think 5 in 7 contracts will become the norm for new starters. These then would become the majority in the business over a period of time as people on older contracts gradually retire or leave the business.
This would allow for a gradual transission to Sunday working as workload on that day increases with time.

Too slow if they're serious about growing the parcel business.Marshamp11 wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 12:01I think 5 in 7 contracts will become the norm for new starters. So...Royal Mail at the moment believe that unless our pay rate for Sunday changes that there is not a product worth advertising to the customer
Sunday premium=no product
No Sunday premium=no volunteers
Can you see the problem?

Re: New shift patterns?
Reading the agreement it’s states Sunday working is voluntary (initially) . Make what you want from that but after many years that will be the final nail in the coffin for me. I will be gone even if I’m not at retirement age. It wasn’t long ago we were told these new times will make the job more family friendly. I’ve spend less time now with my family than in my first 20 enjoyable years. OT rates are very poor and I’ve noticed many long term good posties resign to go to other employment in the last 8 weeks. I’ve not seen this before.

Re: New shift patterns?
The business had people volunteer to work on Boxing day. If you don’t think people will volunteer to work Sundays you a very much mistaken
