Special Delivery backlog?

Post by shipmaster122 »

Just wondered how specials are doing at the moment? Are they somehow siphoned off at local collection DO or on entering the MC, or do they still end up hidden in Yorks (or pallets as seems to be the case lately...!) and delayed still? Curious of the technical process

We have a daily collection and our Friday/Saturday Tracked24s have only just been scanned at Sheffield MC this evening. Spoke with a collection driver today and he said they've got about 2 day backlog to clear. Today seems to be around the busiest point for RM.

I realise most of the delays will be for low-priority untracked parcels/mail, but are specials passing through fine?

Wondering if I should switch to specials, since if they're delivered late I'll get a 100% refund, rather than with Tracked24 where they give us no compensation....

Update - all Specials yesterday failed, not even scanned at the MC yet.

Called RM business team, they said management considering changing the Special guarantee further as large amounts delayed..

Cleared yesterday and this morning apart from a number of yorks of inward foreign packets. Some of yesterdays had to be despatched with the standard mail due to the volume in the system and a large amount was despatched without a despatch scan. The problem is the quantity of specials and the size of the lockers to process them in added to the need to socially distance and therefore the number of people you can get in the locker physically.

Our site has failed the Outward dispatch every Monday by hundreds of items for a few weeks and getting it out on the Tuesday, Inward has cleared every night. Both are throwing it in without scanning for a big portion of the shift though!

It'd be interesting to know at what point SDs are separated, if anyone can tell me the technical details?

We have 2 daily collections, which are taken to our city DO, then go from there to Sheffield MC or Yorkshire PSC.

The SDs collected last night still haven't been scanned (I have no frustration as we'll be refunded). We handover SDs mostly in the blue special delivery pouches or in unsealed sacks.

Do you think our local DO does some pre-sorting before they go out onto a lorry to the MC? Or do they arrive in mixed yorks (with different classes of mail sack label)? Then at the MC staff unload and move internally?

I heard that the local DO that collects our mail has been doing 7 day collections and had to send 4 regular vans on a 1.5 hour journey to the MC because the lorries have been full to capacity recently..
