tracking says item was delivered but it was not

Hello,
I have been waiting for an item I ordered from ebay and it was due for delivery today. When I check on the Royal mail tracking website with the tracking number provided it says it was delivered. But I have checked my mail box and nothing in there. I checked with my neighbours and nearly everyone else in my street, no one has seen my parcel. I checked in and around the house and no parcel. I have been trying to call Royal mail for hours, but they only hang up on me after an automatic message says they're too busy to take my call. I cannot get through to them at all. I also can't find any help on the royal mail website, can't send an email to costomer service either. i asked ebay for help, but they can't help me as they said the item shows as delivered. I am unsure what else I can do. Does this mean I lost the money I spent on ebay because it was delivered to wrong address? I have contacted seller but he can't help he says as the tracking shows it is delivered. But it is not. Does anyone knows what I can do?

Could you let us know the tracking number please? That would help us narrow down the possibilities.

It is about 6miles from where i am.
I am however not very mobile due to medical issues so I cannot easily go there.

0843 903 3213 is their phone number but I have tried the number and it comes up as unavailable.

No real consolation to you but it has possibly been scanned as delivered by mistake. The lack of a red card might also suggest as much. If you have Twitter you will have better luck contacting customer services via @RoyalMailHelp. There is still every chance your parcel will arrive.

I have tried the Bradford number earlier, but it gives an automated message and directs you back to the main Royal mail website and phone number.
I also tweeted earlier as well and sent a direct message, but no response yet.
I find it quite concerning that the tracking info shows item delivered yesterday, there was no postman here yesterday as I checked my security footage and no posties have come at all yesterday. Today there was a postie, though not for me but other houses in the street.
It has been impossible to talk to Royal mail and I find myself losing money I paid for an item I never received.

A word with your postie is probably your best bet if a visit to the DO is not an option. A note on your door for them to knock and a quick word might reveal the callers office telephone number.

That will be difficult as the houses here are all quite a bit apart, non terraced houses. The postie comes in a van and drops off the items in a letter box outside. My front door is up the stairs from there. Also the postie doesn't come every day, sometimes I do not see him/her for quite some time. I will try and keep an eye open, but this is a very concerning situation.

Check with the seller what address they put on the item, have they possibly put the wrong address down?

Well, the seller is not cooperating anymore, saying it is out of his hands after the tricked me into closing an INR case.
I managed to speak to someone at RM this morning, logged this with them and have a ref number. I am hoping someone would come back to me about this.
I am not getting my hopes up, think I might have lost the money I paid for this item.

A little update, the ebay seller keeps saying that Royal delivered to me, I still have no item. I checked again the royal mail tracking website and now there is an update on the tracking which says:
01:05pm Wed 09-12
Refused - Returned to Sender
Bradford Valley DO
I however have not refused anything as no postie came to my house, I wonder if they updated it after my call to Royal mail this morning? Anyways, ebay is now giving me the hassle of chasing this, I have to have proof of non-delivery before they can re-open my case. Though this would take a little while.
I still do not understand what happened here

It is possible they attempted delivery at the wrong address.
Perhaps they went to 36 Acacia Avenue and not 36 Acacia Drive.
Maybe the parcel was wrongly addressed. That would explain why the item was refused.
The delivery office would be able to tell you where the scan occurred.

I see how that happens, but the tracking info stated delivered on 07-12, but I never received anything and the ebay seller kept saying they delivered to me. Today I called royal mail about this and told them there was no delivery to me yet it showed as delivered. Hours after that call it was updated with the refused-return to sender from the delivery office. That is what makes it so odd.
