Re: Lost parcel auctions
Well I know to at least 3 or 4 in west midlands alone, and yes royal mail send items back to sender but not if theres no return note inside or on labels, I myself are having 2 issues at the moment with royal mail, one of my items I sent that sold on ebay I forgot to add the return note inside and the item has come up as undeliverable incorrect address even though the buyer confirmed this was there address, return to sender but it wont come back to me as there is no way or royal mail knowing where to send it me, also I have had to refund a ebayer today as there item still hasn't arrived after 3 weeks 1st Class this was too, tracking just says we haven't attempted to deliver this yet even though I had a separate parcel go there the day before. Surely there cant be a 3 week delay on a 1st class parcel.

Re: Lost parcel auctions
Unfortunately, we're in circumstances where there can easily be a 3 week delay on a 1st class parcel: there's a pandemic.
We have entire delivery offices closed down due to large numbers of infected staff, and other offices that are still open where there is severe disruption due to high numbers of staff sickness, not to mention the sheer volume of work we have to get through.
A sad fact of the current situation is that it has the capacity to knock out entire offices, and moving staff to keep those offices running isn't really an option due to the fact of a lot of local knowledge being required to even sort the mail/parcels, even before anyone attempts to go and deliver in an area they don't know.

Re: Lost parcel auctions
All I'm saying is if I can send a parcel to the same address the day before and it arrives how can this one not? If I knew the same.person was buying i would have sent them together, I understand were in a pandemic and there doing the best they can.

Re: Lost parcel auctions
If the office shuts down, the mail for that day (and subsequent) will not be delivered whilst the mail from the day before may have been delivered.
This may be the issue in the case of these parcels, it may not (there may be another issue). It absolutely has happened in some areas.

There's also capacity on "trunking runs" (Mail Center-Mail Center and Mail Center-Distribution Center), this time of year there's a greater chance of artics running out of room in their trailers

Re: Lost parcel auctions
Yes there is, you need to write to Royal Mail. Given that it has been over 3 weeks, you should send in a P58inland loss parcel claim form, or use the online equivalent. This will allow the National Returns Centre to match up the parcel with you as sender, although that might take a while.
1. If the office shut down the day after the first parcel was delivered (as per other answers above).
2. If the second parcel's packaging got caught in the machinery and separated from the contents, or the address was on a label that fell off.
3. Because the contents were seized under the Dangerous Goods act. If you tell us what it was, we can rule that out.
