Woody Guthrie wrote:The system is called Automatic Hours Data Capture.
It's more than just a clocking in and out machine they're after, it's a system that can monitor and apply banking/annualised hours.

They think that it will cut overtime by as much as a third.
They think that it will allow for a system where you work more hours during the busy periods and less during the quite periods.
They think they can use it to closely monitor performance to flag up members who seem to be taking longer than 'average'.

The data this system will provide when used with the pda data will give them a complete picture in seconds of your working day, week, month, year.

What could go wrong?
It has to work both ways. If they want me to work to my finish time (which hasn't been a problem since March). Then stop pushing me out the door as early as possible.
Example - stop paying people OT to come in 4AM to sort the IPS. You know the IPS work that supposedly doesn't exist anymore.

There is, its called a prep test and IIRC when they planned duties going over to van share it was 18 seconds per letter drop and with 1 minute 56 seconds allocated for a parcel drop as a way to average out the walking speed to cover all ages
None of that is a performance standard.
They're just planning variables for resourcing or resource variables for planning depending on which end of the pantomime horse you're at.

PDA actuals cannot be used unless the person starts at the correct time , takes breaks , then they can be used eventually when they have an agreement with the cwu.

So many arguments happen in DO's because walk "A" is hammered and the OPG is at breaking point whilst walks "B, C & D" are walking out of the door an hour before walk "A" has even completed prep and that OPG knows damn well that they'll all be finished and off home an hour or two before them.

Piss poor managerial organisation at its finest and rife in RM.
Totally agree with your post Sugar. :Applause For a large period of my adult employment I worked in Teams that depended on co-operation with all your fellow colleagues. I've never known a Business like ours to encourage such a selfish "I'm alright Jack" attitude within the work place.

A lot of my colleagues already act like they're Owner/Drivers, only prepping what they consider to be "Their" Work on "Their" Duty! Heaven forbid they actually give a New Guy a hand to prep his unfamiliar duty.... They'd rather sit on their frames playing on their phones waiting for their colleagurs to finish throwing off the IPS. :arrrghhh

As you say it's down to Bad Mangement, I know we hear a lot about Bullying Managers, but's it's been my experience that most DOMs just want to avoid any kind of confrontation. They go out of their way NOT to talk to Posties about their behaviour! I'd have thought if they saw Posties sat on their frames doing nothing they'd say, "Can you go over there and throw off the Households on that duty that's being lapsed"? but they simply turn a blind eye. :no no

I'm sure most of the Bullying comes in when the more Vocal Runners have disappeared out the door early and the DOM needs more Lapsing covered. Then it's time to Lean on the Quieter, more easy going Posties that don't tend to kick off at the slightest thing. :thumbdown I think we do need change within the Business, but rather than New Products & Services I think sometimes it'd be good idea to start with some Postie's attitudes to work. :cuppa

We've got the same problem. The same "Chosen Few" opening up and supposedly prepping the vast ammounts of parcels & mail that turn up on the first truck. As most of us know there's not that much turning up at present, so they just use this time to get their own duties ready to go .... normally by the time everyone else turns up ...... and they're just wandering around drinking coffee and chatting to their mates.

Then they switch into "Go Faster Mode" when the next lot of mail turns up, gobbing off at everyone else to get on with sorting the Packets and IPS so they can get out the door. :cuppa

It would have sufficed were it not for people taking photos of the Colod barcode with their phones :arrrghhh
The machine stops.

The only way around that would be to have a unique barcode generated for each collection each day with it not being generated until around 5-10 mins before the collection is due back at the office

I don't think that is necessary. The GPS in the PDA will show where the barcode has been scanned, if the manager can be arsed to check.

That's one of the most dumbassed and easy ways to get sacked.
Every scan produces a GPS point on the PDA actuals.

Never underestimate a runners determination to shave another 5 minutes of their finish time, even if it costs them their job.

Anyone ever seen the printout of of your coordinates where the scan has supposedly taken place? It's very ball park, certainly not narrowed down to a house. So I delivered to a clump of trees did I?

How does someone elses finishing time affect your life? Genuine question.
