Hi, Im looking for some guidance. I posted two things recorded delivery today and put number 84 instead of 24. The persons surname is unusual so was wondering if I could call the sorting office for that area and inform them of my mistake and ask if they could change address if I can prove I have receipt and ID showing what house number it should be. Has anyone managed to get a house number changed?
I’ve upset myself with this silly mistake the items are of sentimental value to that person. :( thanks for taking the time to read this. Regards Jo

don't call the local delivery office, instead call Royal Mail customer services. The reason I say this is you are unlikely to get hold of either the manager or the psotie during normal office hours. Whereas if you go the official route then paperwork is sent to the office and it makes it easier to change.Jojo_groves wrote:Hi, Im looking for some guidance. Its possible the postie, if they are on their regular round, could spot the error and deliver it to no 24, but of course that lie at the whim of the gods.

I called customer services and they said they couldn’t change it. Against the law. It’s been delivered and signed for. I say signed it says the persons name who should have had the parcel and CV19 in signature. I spoke to the person who should have had the parcel if I put right house number in it and advised they hadn’t received it. With the confirmation of delivery, they went to the house that had the parcel but they have denied having having any post. Not sure of next steps, whether there is any recourse as my error. I would have hoped the person at who took the post in for a different name would have been honest. :(

You could involve the Police, technically the person keeping the item even though it was addressed to their home, could be committing theft by deception.
