Shipping from the US to London went silent

Post by Heithel »

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so I apologise if this is the wrong section.

I’m waiting for a small parcel shipped from US the tracking number is LH108868611US

If that helps it’s a watch, though pretty inexpensive, nothing like a Rolex or anything like that.

Last status update on RM Track & Trace says:
Sunday 30 August
12:47pm
Item Leaving overseas
United States of America

Last status update on USPS tracking says:
September 2, 2020, 10:45 pm
Departed
CHICAGO, UNITED STATES
Your item departed a transfer airport in O'HARE INTERNATIONAL, CHICAGO, UNITED STATES on September 2, 2020 at 10:45 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

After this it all went silent since then.
The item is a present and I didn’t pay for it. It is marked as such, with a content value of $20. The shipping should be around $20.
Any idea where the parcel is at the moment? If it was on a plane on 02/09 it surely landed in the UK by now right? Any idea when it’ll be delivered? Am I paying import duties for it?

Any help would be appreciated!

USPS normally scan items as they enter customs in the UK so 2 possible scenarios:

1. Its still in the US waiting for space on an aircraft.
2. Its made it to the UK but wasn't scanned and is in customs waiting for checks.

However, if you check out Competitors forum https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... m.php?f=40" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; there are some stories on the current Political interference from Donald Trump and Post Master general. Basically, they have caused the Postal system in the US to slow down dramatically. For that reason, I would say 1 is the most likely scenario at present.

With it being a watch, it's possible that at the US end it's being checked that it's safe to fly. Some of the "smart watches" might have lithium batteries

It appears that several countries stop and examine all watches carefully before putting them on the aircraft. This is because watch batteries are problematic under international law, although some countries seem to examine all watches regardless of the type of mechanism. I don’t know if the USA does this.

Or it could be the Trump slowdown, as mentioned by TBT.
