2 IN A VAN AGAIN?
Doesn't Royal Mail usually start drawing-up their Christmas, sorry, Peak plan around now? We can be sure of one thing, though: the war will be over before Christmas

Will there need to be some sort of dispensation in the near future regarding training colleagues on new runs, particularly rural? We are struggling in our DO at the minute trying to cover everything, sickness ,leave etc. Also Woody's post only mentions car derived vans, what about the rest which are not?

The only way I can see someone getting trained on a rural duty just now is as follows.Trolleyvanman wrote:Will there need to be some sort of dispensation in the near future regarding training colleagues on new runs, particularly rural? Free up an extra van by failing another duty.
Take out 1/2 of rural on day 1, with learner following experienced postie, watching and learning. Obviously takes longer due to constraints, hence only taking out 1/2 the duty. Day 2, do the same with the other half of rural duty.

Something else for the drivers to do thendaveyeff wrote:a rep mentioned today its been discussed about bringing back ''bag boxes''. if that's true then van share is gone full stop.
And before anyone says duties will be planned for it, they simply won't. I remember the days of bag drops in boxes, constant arguments about what went into box (parcels etc), arguments with management as you can't complete your own duty as you are waiting for a duty to be bagged up that hasn't even been prepped yet.

Most of which have fallen over, been removed, plain disappeared, still standing but rusting into oblivion, or in great condition but no-one has seen the keys since 2011. So back to leaving bags in shops. I'm overwhelmed to have done this job long enough to see things come full circle again.daveyeff wrote:a rep mentioned today its been discussed about bringing back ''bag boxes''. if that's true then van share is gone full stop.

I can't think of a single useable one anywhere around here. They've either been removed or are so rusted that they'd probably fall apart if kicked.Mr Rush wrote:Most of which have fallen over, been removed, plain disappeared, still standing but rusting into oblivion, or in great condition but no-one has seen the keys since 2011.
Would as many shops allow RM to do that these days?Mr Rush wrote:So back to leaving bags in shops.

Next option down: back to dropping bags in a resident's porch for free stamps.SpacePhoenix wrote:Would as many shops allow RM to do that these days?Mr Rush wrote:So back to leaving bags in shops.

Wouldn't be surprised to see letters and very small parcels that definitely go through letterboxes separated from the rest on longer duties done on foot that finish less than ~1.5 miles of DO, while vans deliver the rest. Would help resolve limited capacity of even Mk2 HCTs for current parcel loads.
