Toilet breaks : Everything shut : Updated

Post by POSTMAN »

Toilet stops need to be looked at as lots could possibly be closed now that were previously open.
Needs to be seriously looked at by reps and the staff and the ability to sort out times for vans to come back to the office, or off-route stops.
Big H&s problem here. Obviously bigger than normal.
Don't be fobbed off!

Don't just post there's none at my place/on my duty, get some sorted, now is the perfect time!
myroyalmail wrote:Business customers, including supermarkets, are legally required to provide toilet facilities. If there is an urgent requirement to wash hands e.g. first aid incident, visit the nearest public convenience or return to your office.
With the closure of most high street outlets, including pubs and shops where toilet facilities were available to use, where can we now go to use toilet facilities?

Consider some of the following whilst maintaining the 2m social distancing at all times when possible:
  • • Use the toilet facilities before leaving the office.
    • Request to use the facilities of a business customer that is still operating (they are legally required to provide toilet facilities).
    • Make use of any public toilets.
    • If there is an urgent requirement to wash hands e.g. a first aid incident, consider stopping your delivery/collection and visit the nearest public convenience or drive back to your office.
    • Takeaways and garages may have toilets available for use.
Where access to toilet facilities is limited what should we do? Update 15 Sept

As shops, restaurants and businesses open up in line with the current easing of lockdown restrictions, drivers and delivery colleagues will have more options and should be able to access toilet facilities.

If in rare cases this is difficult, a letter (See manager for letter) has been produced by the Department for Transport and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to reassure drivers and to remind businesses of their obligations under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, to provide suitable toilet and hand washing facilities to drivers visiting their premises.

Businesses which make or receive deliveries, should ensure that drivers have easy and safe access to toilets and hand washing facilities to support their health and wellbeing whilst carrying out their important work, which supports the economy.

Preventing access is against the law. Regulations 20 and 21 state that suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences and washing facilities shall be provided at readily accessible places and that hot and cold running water and soap must be available to use.

While this obligation for businesses is not new, ensuring that hygiene facilities are made available to colleagues is especially important during the current Covid-19 crisis, to help tackle the spread of the virus, at a time when there are fewer locations operating with facilities for colleagues to use.

Yep. Totally agree. I wanted to go for a Number One near the end of my duty today, only because the pub I used for my regular toilet breaks was closed. This matter needs to be raised with the ruling class as soon as possible.

Reading in the news that a number of shop chains have also shut all of their stores, so soon delivery staff might not have shops as an option

When you are a twenty five minute walk away?

Not everyone is in a van and can just nip back to the depot

Going on what's happened in France and Italy I don't think it'll be too long before the only shops open will be supermarkets, butchers (any shop that sells food - not takeaways) and any shops that sell medical stuff

I raised this yesterday and said I hope there will be no comeback when they see my PDA going 3 miles off route. I have a pub smack on halfway round my duty which I use daily but can’t now, I drink a lot on delivery to keep my hydrated. Bottom line is if you need to go you need to go and it takes as long as it takes to find a toilet.

Have a word with the rep and suggest a scheme be put in place. Perhaps the manager could come out and ferry you, seems like an appropriate task, and with their mobile and laptop and 4G/5G coverage they can still manage.

There is possibly somewhere to go unless of course you are extremely rural.
Work out between yourselves and TELL the managers ( In a friendly way of course) you will be using this place that place when needed.
It's not really up for negotiation.

YES - simple as that, if thats the closest available toilet and nothing is being done to accommodate for this, then you return to the office.
