same tracking numbers across borders and partner carriers(EU and GB)?

Post by ihda »

Hi,

I received a parcel some time ago and it had a "waybill" on it. When entering that waybill number on the DHL webpage it only showed tracking within Germany (from the point of time it arrived in Germany). On the royalmail webpage the was no tracking information for that number.

Does Royal Mail not use the same tracking number like the subsequent partner carrier in the destination country?
Do they actually offer a service in which only the partner carrier in the destination country asssigns a tracking number?

I always thought the tracking number on the parcel ought to show the whole route.

Parcelforce frequently assign a a new tracking number to items when they receive them from overseas carriers. So I wouldn’t be surprised if other carriers do the same. The new and old tracking numbers are supposed to link to each other, giving tracking from end to end. But it is not unknown for the link to fail.

Hi

Thanks for your help. How does the "linking" of the tracking normally work? Should a customer be able to see the whole route (including the royal mail route) of the package when one enters the tracking number ( of the destination country carrier) in the DHL tracking box?
Do you mean that there is a Royal Mail tracking number for procedures on British soil, so to speak? Or is it possible that there is no tracking in the UK and the tracking only starts in the destination country?
