A good example of a company doing this is Selektmail in Holland.
Arent these the guys that gets the mail delivered to their homes and they sort it in their bedrooms.
Anyway this (see news forum) is getting sorted as they are being used as slave labour.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Is it not true to say its the frontline staff blueshirts and managers alike in each delivery office/unit and spdo that keep RM going and working well. Imagine if we all started cocking up? We keep st neots working reasobaly well the next office along huntingdon does the same etc etc. therefore just what do senior managers do to deserve such a big pay when its the frontline staff doing 99% of the work. Are senior managers nothing more than glorified overpaid co ordinators ?
Fozz, we have all seen these computer programs used before especially in Distribution with regards the crt System.
However, these programs work really well finding the routes etc, only problem becomes when you do the route in practice, invariably it does not work and creates all sorts of problems. The computers work on average examples but life does not always fit into "average" and traffic etc differs from day to day.
now in that case you definately have a point, in our office the screws can't decide anything without calling the dom or area manager on the phone, what are they paid for if not to make decisions.
When working for a competitor their work is based on reality. So it does work, and yes has taken time to perfect.
When I mean non-ops I mean Ops HQ, marketing etc.... Ops managers actually do a shed-load of work and are stuck trying to manage a situation that they have little control over. It's not a nice job and sometimes there should be a little less animosity shown to them. However, a nasty piece of work is just that!
I left Ops mgmt as I was getting physically and verbally attacked and potentially having harassment/bullying cases taken out on me when colleagues in MArketing worked in some shiny building in London and were on the same salary. Which one wuodl you do if you had the choice? Starting at 6am-2pm (usually later)!
Sometimes it's hard to have these conversations by email, maybe a pre-determined chatroom should be setup one evening?
Neither myself or anybody here is having a pop at you Fozzie but what you gotta remember is that most of us on here are potmen/women and our only experience of managers are the idiots we get at our offices that are totally incompetant
I think we may have been at cross purposes and can't criticise Ops management as I have never seen them at work or really know what they do
your insight is of great interest and I'm sure could prove useful at a later date
