You sort of can in that you would get moved onto a different walk or maybe to a different office while the leaflets were delivered on your walk. Then you could go back onto your walk. I have never seen a postie opt to do this though in twenty years.Ryan741 wrote:Can you opt out of election stuff? Didn't know you could do that.

Isn't the Labour stance to support the working person? Well, there will be less (working people) if Brexit happens on the current ' withdrawal agreement' or even worse if we crash out, so I don't see personally, how they could not want to stop Brexit.south London postie wrote:Not Corbyn's fault tough - they campaigned for Brexit at the last General Elextion. It's the Tony Blair-type people - Starmer, Thornberry, Jess Philips, etc - they forced the Labour Party to support a second ref.

If they try that one on, then just say ok I'll work to time and not claim any overtime, only getting election payments for the bits I complete. See how long their stance lasts then.postmanzach wrote:Long as I get paid extra for them I don’t see a problem. The problem is that people often go over their time at Christmas and will definitely be expecting to get paid for it, but usually with election stuff we been told you can’t claim for them and for overtime. So not sure how it’s going to work.

Well said.Marshamp11 wrote:I go over my time everyday so where are my swings and roundabouts. Maybe tomorrow I will tell the lino that I wont book the hour over my time I will come in an hour late friday morning instead to bring me in line with swings and roundabouts.Got to work both ways surely.danny2006 wrote:If anybody in our office says we ain't gonna manage lapsing or finish on time, we get the Ahh, but you were back and hour/ half hour on Tuesday/Saturday, you owe this back, swings and roundabouts.
Also if they are over on Wednesday, why are they an hr early on Tuesday and Saturday? I mean, that's really bad management of the office. Surely they need to cut Tuesday and Saturday hrs down and put em into Wednesday and Thursday? It's not rocket science.

Can you still opt to not work past your finish time if there are election leaflets or do you have to stay out till you've completed them?
Thanks
Thanks

You can still work to your time.

Our potential strike and the GE are two different things, having a GE can not stop us striking...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

NOTE: Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson, is a British far-right anti-Islam activist. He is the co-founder and former leader of the English Defence League, and later served as a political advisor to former UKIP leader Gerard Batten. Robinson has been active in far-right politics for many years. He ran an unsuccessful bid May 2019 in European elections; without a manifesto. UKIP were also unsuccessful, too. Yaxley-Lennon is currently being banned from attending all England football matches anywhere in the world...So if you do NOT WISH TO PROMOTE POLITICAL EXTREMISM, then don't. Managers should deal with your opt out sensitively and professionally...you really ought not to kick up a public storm, just refuse privately in confidence stating your case.

If our strike is likely or going to disrupt communications and the ability to vote in the general election it's almost certain an injunction will be brought by the government. They will not let us stop the election running smoothly even though Gina Miller was allowed to twice throw a spanner in the works of government.

its power is greatly restricted though. every MPs seat becomes vacant, and constituencies are unrepresented. all unfinished business remains unfinished and use of public money is more or less out of bounds. plus its certainly not against the law to strike during a GE. can't see an injunction taking place just to suit them.
