Insight into How signed and tracked services are scanned

Post by narasay »

Hi, so when a international signed and tracked parcels coming in and once they are all sorted into their batches do they scan every parcel ?

Or do they scan the bag or batch in one go?

Reason being is my parcel hasn’t had a scan at the mail centre and I’m worried.

- it hasn’t even had a scan at Heathrow, or leaving (outbound) of Heathrow or arrival at destination country.

Is this normal when shipping to European country?

Bare in mind I posted at 2nd of July

Thanks for the replies I’d like to know more about their processes.

not all items are scanned as it depends on what service was paid for when and where they are scanned.

Thank you for the reply,

I posted using a international tracked & signed for service...

Dropped off at 2nd of July and the tracking still says “accepted at post office”

People keep saying on the Royal Mail customer service is it has missed scans. But how could it possibly miss 3-4 scans on top of the mail centre scan?

My main concern is it’s lost somehow but how so if the parcel is a small box and 1.5-1.6kg

I just want some insight on what you think this weird delay could be and should I prepare for the item to be “lost”

Is that the one and only scan on the tracking? There has been an intermittent fault in the tracking system since about 2013 that makes it do that, even when the parcel is progressing through the system and being scanned normally.

Yes that is the only tracking there is available currently.

How can it miss several scans at different points in this amount of days is my question?

What are the chances of it either 1) being returned to me (there is return to: on the label).
2) actually being delivered without 0 tracking info.
3) stolen because if it was lost it would at least go through a few scans as getting lost from the post office to mail centre is unlikely

Also any suggestions what to do?

If the software fault has reoccurred then it still gets all the scans, but the scanning information does not get associated with your parcel. In which case it will still probably arrive, but you can’t check on it. Not saying that has definitely happened, but it is another option on top of your list.

Would the parcel arrive on time by now? As it is a gift item.

So it’s on its 5th working day now so if no arrival today it probably isn’t that, right?
