The union would not call strike dates that interfered with the democratic process, it would be a PR disaster.

If any trials of the new parcel system do not fail and get dropped and it cannot be negotiated away then there will have to be proper & sustained industrial action nationally. The CWU could not stand by and let potentially 20,000 union members lose their jobs. I'm not saying strike actions would actually stop it happening but a stand will have to be taken.WRIGHT88 wrote:Don't worry about it this union is so rubbish there won't be no strikes

Striking is pointless, work to rule is much better. if most of the office takes part.

Surely this is a moot point. Much like the Brexit vote.... We could all vote YES and we still wouldn't go out. As demonstrated in our last effort! It seems like the YES Vote was just used as a negotiating tool (God Knows what for) and RM was let of the hook...Again!

My opinion too. Cause havoc from within. Management then have to then really manage instead of having a cushy day whilst we are on the street.glass joe wrote:Striking is pointless, work to rule is much better. if most of the office takes part.

It's happened previously as well when RM went to the high court and got the strike ballot ruled unlawful on some technicality (years ago now, don't ask me just when)Celgar wrote:I think that happened last time because the union didn't go through the mediation process after the first set of talks. The CWU won't make that mistake twice.wacko74 wrote:The way strikes typically work is we ballot for strike action, then RM get it ruled unlawful on some technicality or other and the whole thing fizzles out.

Would a work to rule stand any chance of lasting more than 5mins in deliveries across the country?glass joe wrote:Striking is pointless, work to rule is much better. if most of the office takes part.

In my experience the only thing that has instant success is the unofficial walkout. However the recriminations afterwards as managers 'witchhunt' the perceived culprits are not pleasant. Tory industrial stranglehold laws, never removed by 'New Labour', have for decades dumbed down worker input into the industrial melting pot. Royal Mail, like all employers, have the upper hand at the moment. The current Labour Party, if elected, will remove many of the limitations on industrial action, and then progress can be made with a more potent threat in the background behind any negotiations. Currently we have our negotiators working with one hand tied behind their back all the time.

you cant even get people to not start before their start time now, these are the people who would last 1-2 days of "working to rule" and realise theyre not making any time, so would be back to coming in early by day 3, then others will see that and join them. :arrrghhhglass joe wrote:Striking is pointless, work to rule is much better. if most of the office takes part.

Not a good idea to mention the 'work to rule' phrase while working for RM as they take objection to it. Our DO managed to do the job 'properly' together for nearly a whole week to prove a point to the finance director to make him realise they were getting their pound of flesh. We stopped an attempt to cut the office budget although afterwards I think he accused us of 'working to rule' . We were just following their rules & guidelines to the letter so say that and not the other phrase.Postie45 wrote:you cant even get people to not start before their start time now, these are the people who would last 1-2 days of "working to rule" and realise theyre not making any time, so would be back to coming in early by day 3, then others will see that and join them.glass joe wrote:Striking is pointless, work to rule is much better. if most of the office takes part.
