Hi there,
I was wondering if someone could help provide some clarification.
On Tuesday, I posted an item via Royal Mail 1st Class Signed for to a buyer who purchased an item I sold on eBay. Strangely, it was never posted to the buyer but instead I received the package today. The postman didn't leave a card nor did he ask for a signature - he just posted the package through my letterbox and I doubt he scanned it as the tracking page shows no update since I initially posted it on Tuesday.
This is honestly very bizarre as it has never happened before. The address details were very clearly written.
I spoke to Royal Mail customer services earlier today and was told that it has been logged as a complaint and that I will receive a call within 3 - 10 working days so that they can investigate why this happened.
Has this ever happened to anyone else before? Also, does anyone know why this might have occurred? Could it be a genuine mistake by an RM employee in the depot or something else entirely?

is the return address on the front, if so it appears sometimes that the machines misread this as the destination address. I get it on my round sometimes, I just sort it back to the mail centre.

No, the return address was on the back of the jiffy bag/envelope.
It's a bit frustrating as I had to post it out again earlier today as I was told that because the tracking stamps/labels on the front of the envelope were from 2 days ago, it would need to be posted again with a new separate tracking reference number.
