Just adding in my case here. My package containing four t-shirts from the US has been at Langley HWDC since 6th March. So that's two months today.

Should I assume this is lost forever? I never received anything in the post relating to customs or tax or anything else.

It's possibly not coming via Royal Mail as that's not a valid tracking number for either Royal Mail or Parcelforce.

Parcel at Langley HWDC

Hi. My parcel RM991063064CN (some LEDs from China) has been stuck, I suspect at Langley, since 22 Jan. The seller has kindly refunded the money.

What I find amazing is, not that a parcel might be intercepted and checked - I understand that-, but that a Govt organisation would just keep it/ bin it without any attempt to contact the addressee, and provide no means whatsoever to contact them and ask what has happened. This must create a tonne of work for Royal Mail answering questions from irate customers (if I were RM I'd be really annoyed about this). And that's to say nothing of small firms who need these deliveries to make their products / fulfil orders, or the poor sellers at the other end who have to refund the money when the parcel doesn't arrive.

The people who have posted here are the very tip of what must be a big iceberg - this is just the people who since January, have realised what has happened, found this website and bothered to create an ID so that they can post a message. There must be loads more. This is surely scandalous.

There - got it off my chest!

PS. huge credit to the RM staff who make the effort to try and answer questions and offer advice here.

You haven’t given us enough information to help you.

What country is the item addressed to?

What is inside?

Who sent it and why, e.g. is it something you bought online?

The batteries in mobile phones are a minefield. See:

https://www.royalmail.com/sites/default ... l%2019.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Despite that, the parcel is listed as leaving the UK on the 02nd April. So the problem is at the Nigerian end: I believe that this service does not get tracked in Nigeria.

You asked in a previous post what you should do: your uncle should complete a P58inland form and send it to Royal Mail with the proof of posting.

Hi

I have a very important package stuck in langley. The item was due to be sent from UK to Dublin. The message I have received since Tuesday is Tracking no. RN546433409GB

We have received your item at LANGLEY HWDC, our international processing centre. Your item is being prepared for despatch overseas.

I have rang twice and been instructed that it will only be considered lost after 20 working days. They mentioned that it might have been sent for 2nd scanning if there is an issue with scanning what happens to the items is there anywhere this can be viewed or followed up on to confirm addresses? Is there anyway to find out more of the whereabouts of the package. After 20 days once considered lost is an investigation initiated or is this just the point where a compensation claim is feasible. I do not wish for compensation I would like to understand what has happened to my package once received,

Langley is usually the last place it shows in tracking before it enters the UK Customs process and the Irish one so it may be undergoing a more detailed search. There is no way to be certain which until AnPost or Royal Mail tracking changes.

It wasn't a prohibited https://www.royalmail.com/ireland#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or restricted item I take it:

As to compensation or investigation, I am afraid as an unofficial site we don't have any insight into the policies which would govern that issue.

Thanks for your comments they are much appreciated. I do not think my item is prohibited. So even from UK to IE items can be stopped by customs? Do you know whether there is anyway to confirm whether it has been sent for further inspection? As I am the recipient I am unsure whether sender and recipient name and address were clearly stated on the packaging.,

All EU countries mail can be stopped by any another, it's not just tax and import duties they are looking at, but safety, security, legality, fraud, drugs and counterfeit items.

There is no way to check if it has been sent on for more investigation, but it may just be unlucky that it was in a batch of mail they wanted to check and though nothing is wrong with yours, the extra check of all mail in that batch will delay it.

If there is an issue with the address An Post will return it to Royal Mail, and both should show tracking information at some point. If this was the issue then the item would go to Belfast who can investigate and either send it on or return it, having the Tracking number will help in this situation.

There tracking system was down for much of Tuesday. Maybe it had another, temporary blip when they went to check that time. I can track it now.

Given where the item stopped moving, it looks like a problem with the contents. Was it a mobile phone, tablet or laptop, by any chance?
