But put a different pairing of people on some "crap" or "too big" walks and they will become "nice" or "easy" walks and vice versa. This job has so many variables on a day to day basis (number of parcels, amount of mail for starters) that a walk can be easy or hard on 2 consecutive days but the biggest is the people doing itrambo1 wrote:Point is, there shouldn't be 'nice' walks and 'crap' walks !!Navalron wrote:What is it with all you grassess. And what's it got to do with you what other staff are working. Is it just jealousy on your part. Maybe they have been in the job for years, done all the crap walks and worked their way to a nice walk. That's the way it is. FFS it's bad enough with managers trying to screw you but when fellow workers do it that's bad news. They don't need PDAs when so called workmates can watch them for gaffers.

A hard round is a hard round; we all know the ones that people do not enjoying doing... Those rounds that the so-called seniors do not apply for when they become available... Moreover, not every senior has worked their way through bad rounds and being reserves to a cushier round... Lastly, you have a contract to do a job and that is what you should do - not one person on cushy rounds and others being driven to the ground. You work, you get paid and accumulate pension benefits - turn served is immaterial

I would hope that my concerns are misplaced but in my experience the folks that tend to express themselves in caps-lock frequent the far right of the political spectrum; 88 being synonymous with the deference given to one Adolf Hitler.Acca Dacca wrote:WRIGHT88 wrote: Been in the job 20 years but born in 1988?

Ok and your solution is what? Throw everyones name in a hat every resign? In your ideal world would that be fair? "turn" (or do you mean term?) served is only immaterial to those that feel hard done by it, or that feel they are losing out because of it. Usually those are the ones that haven't YET benefitted from longer service. There is no fairer system and most HAVE "worked their way through bad rounds and being reserves to a cushier round" Where as no one new has have they? The rounds will never be even it is impossible, accept it or go looking for your Utopia somewhere else for you will be forever disappointed looking for it in RM!chrisj wrote:A hard round is a hard round; we all know the ones that people do not enjoying doing... why do you called efficient people runners? I never run, I don't waste time putting an elastic band around everything, I don't waste time putting 2000 D2D's in frame only to have them slow down the letter sorting, I don't stop and talk, I don't smoke, I don't carry a mobile phone. 1 hour a day for 15 years, 4500+ hours extra I've had doing things I much rather be doing.Jpro747 wrote:Are managers actually looking at them and adding more work to the rounds getting back early?
In my office the runners have been finishing 1hr+ before their time for over a year and nothing has been added.

Even on two identical duties a duty holder will usually finish earlier than a reserve simply because they know the duty back to front.
They'll prep it faster, pull it out faster and deliver it faster.
In my experience that is in some part* the reason why it looks like some walks are easier than others.
*I'm aware that there are in some offices genuine disparities between walks.
If you put yourself in management's shoes how do you resolve that imbalance without demotivating the duty holder to the point where he/she just slows down making the whole confrontation pointless?

So after seeing other people's comments am I talking s##it, people wouldn't just walk in and have pick off so called easier dutys because there shouldn't be that much difference in the duties and they are picked on SENIORITY,so stop grab grabbing theres a good lad, people like you stuck in the old ages are ruining the job for everyone.why should people be finishing 2 hrs before others on the same pay.

If you get paid till 3pm, you should be working till 3pm. If the walks not big enough, you need to do more indoor before going out. You didn't say if you had your break, used a lwt and didn't leave packets in bins or walk across people's lawns.masterblaster wrote:why do you called efficient people runners? Your maths is a little bit out, unless you work all your days off.... anyway I reckon you still have been paid £35k by royal mail for not working the last hr of your day in the last 15 yrs. No wonder the business is fxxcked. Eh.

Fine in theory. If the walks not big enough, you need to do more indoor before going out.
Absolutely unworkable in practice.

As i reserve ive done half my office and i can honestly say that all the rounds ive done are almost equal, the difference comes when it depends which day your doing which duty.
