No tracking shows parcel missing? UK-USA RN551377355GB
This is a problem. It has *probably* left the originating post office but hasn't been received at the Royal Mail sorting office. You need to contact Royal Mail.

I don’t believe there is such a thing as a local sorting office. Outbound mail goes direct from your local Post Office to the regional Mail Centre. You are probably thinking of your local Delivery Office, which doesn’t deal with outbound mail at all.
There are lots of ways that things can go wrong: mail bags accidentally get left in a dark corner etc. Your tracking stops at a point at which there is a weakness in the process: POs don’t scan items out individually, they only confirm the number being passed over, which makes it possible for errors to creep in.
You need to report this to Royal Mail via the helpline or web form. This alerts them to the issue and makes it more likely to get fixed.
