No, it comes under legitimate interest in the Data Protection Act, as long as the photograph is deleted when no longer required.SpacePhoenix wrote:Could there even be a conduct code issue with someone using their own phone to photograph a barcode (data protection)?FirstPost wrote:I know it might sound stupid but what if you dont have a phone? is it mandatory to have a phone whilst on duty? even a smart phone with a camera? I thought when you scan these items it sends the customer a text message to say it's been delivered or not. What if you write down half a dozen track numbers on a piece of paper and then scan them all in at once using someone else's pda. Does that mean the customer thinks that they should have additional items when they have only ordered one?? Do they ring in enquiring this?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

yes was a problem for myself I simply handed over tracked and 2ds to my customers. was not using my personal property ie phone to photograph barcodes this is royal mails
problem not mine if their systems or pdas don't function then its on their hands to sort this. we get enough blame when you are pulled for even 1 barcode failure , even if the barcode was faulty, eye for an eye.

Writing on cards and scanning later - would that confuse our customers? For example, you write down a dozen tracked items on your piece of paper and 10 of them get delivered. You scan all these 10 in at once in your PDA as 'delivered', press complete at the bottom and it then asks for a signature that you don't expect (maybe it was one of those foreign ones). What name are you putting in??
Also, imagine scanning a few of those barcodes as 'not delivered' when you have returned back to the depot by which time the customer is now in and has just received a text message that Royal Mail has just tried to deliver their item!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Management will just blame you for multiple barcode failures as there'll be no proof of delivery on the system1617mel wrote:yes was a problem for myself I simply handed over tracked and 2ds to my customers. was not using my personal property ie phone to photograph barcodes this is royal mails

Yes, and just be careful signing any dodgy counselling and conduct forms relating to non scanning of items because you didn't have a friggin PDA!!

Why would you have needed to use your own equipment? You should have been using the PDA back up slips (the ones we used to use before PDAs) to write them down.1617mel wrote:yes was a problem for myself I simply handed over tracked and 2ds to my customers. was not using my personal property ie phone to photograph barcodes this is royal mails

I realized about halfway through my walk that I was supposed to be writing all the tracked down. Must have handed over a good dozen or more before my partner told me. I've only been in the job a couple of weeks, so hopefully I won't catch too much flak for it. But it was a complete nightmare of a day. Windy, rainy, a shedload of stuff to deliver, and then trying to keep up with my loops while handwriting every bloody parcel. Ridiculous. I was half dead with exhaustion by the time we finished.

You should have been shown how to deliver tracked & SD items on your first day if not before at your initial training if RM still do that now.bardeh wrote:I realized about halfway through my walk that I was supposed to be writing all the tracked down.
