Royal Mail handed to delivery partner *tracking doesn't work*

Post by Andraz93 »

For some reason, the package was received back at HWDC, was sento to Manchester Mail centre, and is now despatched to HWDC back again. Can't believe it.

Could it possibly be that Royal Mail handed the package to GLS who wouldn't accept it because the postage was paid at Slovenian Post?

It's me again.

This response is for people who are searching this forum for answers.

The package returned yesterday, 13rd of February, 75 days after it was marked as 'Return to Sender' at Salford DO. :Boo hoo!

I don't even know where to start. On the package, the recipient's address, which I wrote incorrectly, is crossed out. That's logical. I am clueless, however, as to why my own address is also crossed out. The package was sent back overseas on 1th of December last year, but I have no idea where it went, as it returned back to HWDC 18 days later. The package then traveled back to Manchester. Once it arrived there, it got shipped back to HWDC. Then, on 29th December, the tracking said 'ITEM RECEIVED'. Well, where? The tracking system just said 'ITEM RECEIVED'. Not to mention that the tracking site still claimed that 'package was given to the delivery partner, GLS', even though it was still rolling around UK at that time. When I called or contacted Royal mail, they responded that the item was handed to GLS and is no longer their concern, even though the tracking site showed the package received back at Manchester in mid-December. The question is, what the hell was happening up to this point? My guess is that it was sent to the wrong country. Then, nothing, until I filled a claim three days ago. Now, it has magically appeared. It wasn't delivered by GLS, but our local Post Office, which is another surprise, since Royal Mail claims that all trackable items go via GLS one way or another. The tracking still shows 'ITEM RECEIVED', 29th December :D

On the box, there are no indicators that the box has been opened (or even examined!) by the customs. Only the recipient and sender's address (both crossed out), and an RTS label. So, my guess is that Royal Mail just kept on sending it to the wrong locations until it eventually arrived (who knows where this package has been, it might have seen half of the world, why else would it take so long!?). The tracking stopped for some reason after Dec 29th, I have no idea why as the barcode on the box is still clearly legible.

I am just very confused but glad that this mess is finally over.

I will stay away from Royal Mail in the future, never had anything similar happen in the last 10 years. I was also shocked by the number of people complaining about their packages getting lost at HWDC. Even though I am happy that the package eventually returned, I cannot hide my disappointment. Oh, and their customer support is about as useful as Ryanair's. :evil/mad :evil/mad

I would like to thank everyone who took their time to answer to my questions on this forum, I know you guys are not Royal Mail.

Best guess is that your local version of Royal Mail might not process return to sender items that often, combined with your local customs taking a while to release the item.
