Outward bound parcel not moved

Post by Patientmum »

Hi, I posted a parcel to NZ on the 14/10/18.
I paid for tracking but it looks like it still hasn’t left London AMU and has been there since 17/10/2018. We send parcels to NZ quite a bit and none of them have ever not arrived. Any ideas? Have tried customer services but can’t get through. Thank you

Usually when there is a gap between the UK and a foreign country its down to 2 things.

1. Its being inspected by the customs of the destination country - New Zealand is very strict with import - it isn't a restricted or banned item is it.

2. Sometimes its stopped this side when they scan it and decide it needs checking further (for the same reasons as above) - but you would have seen entries that make this clear.

Therefore I think its stuck in NZ for checks. If you want, copy the whole tracking status here and we can check it out to see if there is anything different.

(ps quick reminder - we aren't Royal Mail, but we do work for them so any advice is unofficial)

There are multiple ways those contents could cause issues. “Textiles & textile articles” are prohibited (i.e. banned) by NZ. Second hand clothing is restricted by NZ. More expensive or unusual trainers can cause issues because they have pressurised parts or batteries to power lights, etc.

Thank you for your replies, pretty sure there is nothing in my parcel that customs would question, nothing that we haven’t sent before and had problems with. Been nearly 28 days now, still says parcel went from Langley to London AMU then no further movement or updates. I have tried ringing customer services but was on hold until I eventually had to go out.

I am also facing the same problem. Does AMU stand for Address Management Unit? Why would our parcels be kept there, if that's where they are "stuck"?

Edit:
I have 2 parcels, both "stuck" at London AMU. They contain vintage computer equipment. The destination countries are The US, and Poland.

The date for The US parcel at London AMU is 15 Dec, and 20 Dec for the parcel to Poland.

Do either of them have a lithium battery in them (possibly the CMOS battery - the battery that powers the chip that holds the BIOS settings)?

Good question, but no, neither have batteries. Each parcel contains an old sound card, and these cards are wrapped in an antistatic bag with a big warning sticker on them, saying WARNING CONTAINS STATIC SENSITIVE DEVICES.

Perhaps this is causing a problem, but it's very strange, as I post many of these parcels, and this is the first time this has happened.

I have posted a small parcel with a dress to the USA on the 12.12.2018 by Royal Mail International tracked & signed service. I post to the USA a lot and have never come across London AMU before. My parcel's tracking has not changed since 14.12.2018 when it was processed by London AMU. I fear it will be another Royal Mail lost parcel claim.

Ollie11, don't dispair! because after 2 weeks stuck at London AMU, my parcel to the US has suddenly appeared on the tracking info page again for royal mail. It's now in LA. Roughly where is your destination? Is it CA? Mine was small parcel sized too.

Just an update for anyone else waiting on packages sent to India in last couple of weeks, the package has appeared again on tracking. Apparently, due to the rakshabandan and independence day, there are backlogs.... fingers crossed now it makes it through. good luck folks!
