A letter I sent from Portugal to UK

Post by jupiwolf »

So I sent a letter recently to the UK.

All it has inside is a few sheets of paper with drawings I made and a pen.

Is this going to be held at customs because of the pen? It's a letter with a pretty big sentimental value I really was hoping for it not to be delayed for delivery.

It might it might not.

Customs don't stop particular parcels unless there is something suspicious about them, But what they do do is stop a batch of mail and perform more intensive checks on the whole batch, that's why some days the same thing will go straight through, and on other days be held up for ages.

Just wondering - when you say you sent a letter, do you mean in an envelope?

A pen in an envelope will pop through unless it's a very strong and/or tapes envelope.

It's an envelope. Also I placed a sticker informing that it had a pen inside.

The tracking says it's in langley, but is the info accurate? Or it may be that's it's already been delivered?

I don't think the machine that sorts can read a sticker, just addresses.

I see pens, coins, plugs, chargers, insoles etc in envelopes every day and they are normally ripped open. An envelope is for sheets of paper, or maybe a card, something flat.

I'm okay with it being ripped open as long as the contents aren't compromised. Also I asked the lady at the post office if placing a pen inside would be a problem.

So though its ripped open, is it resealed?

It depends on how much damage is done, if anyone notices and if the pen is still present. Most damage is noticed at some point, and the item is placed in a bag. The bag has 'Our apologies' written on it, and a phone number to ring to complain or make further enquiries. If the pen has come out in a machine, or at a time when no one notices, then it would be impossible to know where the pen came from.

Item Received
LANGLEY HWDC, United Kingdom

It's been there since the 11th. Is it accurate info? or is there a possibility of it already being delivered and the information on the tracking system is delayed?

That is a possibility. Another one is that it has been delivered but not scanned (human error), or more likely its held up in customs.

If this is the case and it's not been scanned will it ever be updated onthe tracking system?

Bump.

Still at langley.

Is it normal that it's taking this long for them to deliver the letter? I'm getting worried it might be lost somehow. I don't really mind it taking long to deliver as long as it is delivered.
