Special Delivery gone WRONG - please help

Post by imnotahuman »

Hi guys and gals, please can someone offer me some advice for the mess I find myself in.

Last week a woman here in the UK bought a high value item from me through an online platform. I sent it Special Delivery, expecting it to arrive safe and well with her the next day. Instead, at 9.30 on the next day she emails and says the tracking says the address is wrong and the parcel is being returned to me. I had copy/pasted/printed her address so there is no way it can be wrong. I told her to give it a day, postie had probably pressed the wrong button.

By 10.30 that day the tracking said "Available for collection or redelivery"

Next day it said "Due to be delivered today" but wasn't.

I then phone RM & ask what's going on. They start an inverstigation though I still haven't heard anything back from them.

Then yesterday the tracking notes said "Collected from your customer service point" at 7.30 which I assumed was the woman who had FINALLY gone and got it.

But now I have a message from her asking where the parcel is/has it returned to me. She claims it definitely wasn't her who collected it as she has never even had a note asking her to collect it. And her post office opens at 9am so I am prone to believe her.

So what the heck is going on? What should I do? Someone is lying and something has gone very wrong here. All I want is to get the item back but I'm pretty resigned to never seeing it again. I will phone RM in the morning & try to gee them into investigating properly.

But realistically how can they ever prove where the parcel is now?

Scratch that, it was her delivery office the parcel was collected from and that opens at 7am. So it could have been her and she is trying to defraud me. This is just awful. I have requested the signature used to obtain the parcel but I bet I'll never get anywhere.

Just to update my own story if by the slimmest possibility anyone is interested :wave

RM informed me this morning that the delivery office are holding the parcel because this moron not only has the incorrect postcode in her shipping profile, she also lives in a small block of flats and does not have the flat number in the address!!!! Unbelievable. RM will not do a Special Delivery to a block of flats, they MUST have the specific flat number, which...is kinda obvious to anyone with a functioning brain.

So RM have done the most stellar job in protecting my goods. Hats off to them.

At my request the parcel will now come back to me - that's the theory anyway. For her to pick it up she would need photo ID, utility bill etc. Which obviously wouldn't match the incorrect postcode :arrrghhh

I told the woman what they'd said and all she said was it was "strange". No sorry or anything for bothering me ALL WEEK when it was her fault all along! And she goes "oh just tell them I'm in flat no._ and let me know if they need to know anything else". :silenced

Good to hear that you seem to have got a result with this, and hopefully RM have done the right thing and will be returning it to you.

The cynic in me wonders if the person you sent it to has done it deliberately! She may have given you an incorrect address in the hope that RM worked it out and delivered it correctly - but then she could deny receipt and say that the address was wrong. Telling you on the day that the address was wrong could have been part of the set up.

Maybe I am cynical, but a couple of weeks ago a friend said they sent something by Signed For and it had been signed for but receipt was being denied - when I told her the PDA records the GPS location she went back to the person she sent it to with that info, and has heard nothing more from them since.

Can I just say a big thank you for letting us know what happened? I suspect a fair few complaints on here are actually not RM’s fault but it is good to hear it from a customer.

I would call eBay’s customer services about this customer. They are difficult to get through to but very good when you do. This could help protect another seller.
