Hi!
I know that the normal protocol for items with customs charges is that it will say on the tracking "awaiting redelivery", etc. while your postie delivers your grey slip and you sort out the charges. However, on this occasion I decided to have the item delivered to my work address. It's been three days and no grey slip...is the procedure different for business addresses? I'm a little bit anxious, because this is a birthday gift and I just want to know the amount so I can pay the charge. Would heading to the delivery office with the tracking number and ID enable me to find out the amount? I wouldn't expect them to hand the parcel over to me, I just want the cost, so I can pay online and have the item delivered. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

1. No. Everyone gets the grey card irrespective of the type of address.
2. No. The tracking number won't help as the surcharges are kept separately and in a specific order. With literally 100s each for each office its nearly impossible to track it down without the grey card. Usually, the grey card is sent out within 24 hours of the office getting the notification of a surcharge/Vat due.

What would be the procedure if the card is lost? My parcel has been sat at the delivery office for 3 days now and I haven’t received a card. It’s never taken this long before. I called Royal Mail customer service and they said to go to the delivery office and ask what the charge is. Quite worried now.

Go down to the delivery office with lots of ID and explain your situation.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Thank you - I may have to do this, to be honest, as it's been almost a week and a slip has yet to be delivered. The customer service team have told me via email that they have put in a request with the DO manager to get a slip out to me ASAP, however, my parcel has been sat at the DO for 7 days now and I only have 11 left until they send it back.
