I would like to stop shipping the package

Post by Marcin_esz »

Hi, I really need help and advice
I would like to stop sending parcel to Nigeria. I was scammed by the buyer, I did not receive the money and I sent the parcel, now the parcel is in HEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC, is there a chance that the package will be hold? on the hotline an employee of the royal mail informed me that there is no such option.
What can I do to get this package back to the sender? write to the Nigerian mail ofice? there is my package tracking number RU946271565GB
I will be grateful for all the advice

There is no way of stopping anything once it is on the way. There are actually laws against that in the UK and most other countries.

Your best hope is that it gets returned to you because of customs or other rules. What is in the package?

There is bad news and good news on that front. The bad news is that Nigeria ban the import of "All types of footwear, excluding safety shoes used in oil industries and sport shoes". This means that fashion trainers might be subject to destruction by Nigerian customs, and would never get to the Nigerian postal service. For the full list of prohibited items, which is quite difficult to read, see https://www.royalmail.com/nigeria/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The good news is that Royal Mail do some checks on items before they leave the UK and send back items they find that contravene overseas customs. This doesn't happen every time, but there is a good chance that it will come back if you have filled in the customs declaration and put your return address on the parcel. That's assuming that I am right that the contents are prohibited in this case.

Nigeria should have been your first warning anyway, the country has a bad reputation for scams particularly 419 scammers, 419 refers to the Nigerian criminal code against fraud and you have found out to your cost.

For future reference make sure the money is in tge bank before sending.
