Is it permissible to get the correct postage rates -- when sending a heavier letter, or sending by airmail -- by mixing up all different stamps? Can I put, for instance, a second class and first class stamp on the same letter, then top that up with 6p, 7p or whatever, to get to the correct postage rate? Can I use a Large Letter 1st class stamp on my airmail letter? I presume I simply need to check the current rates for the stamps I have, then make sure my arithmetic is done correctly.
I ask, in part, because having just seen the new rates for 2018, the current airmail rate of £1.25 happens to be the same as adding one 2nd class stamp to one 1st class stamp (58p+67p=£1.25). And I find I have a whole sheet of 1st class large letter stamps that I really would like to use for other things -- especially my airmail letters. So if I send airmail to Zone 1 at under 10g, can I put on my envelope a 1st class large letter stamp together with an extra 24p? (£1.01+24p=£1.25).
