if everyone stuck to the rules then there would be massive investment, walks would be smaller, more staff, manageable workloads.
Where's your evidence for that?
We are already considered inefficient by the regulator.
How would it look if they put in more "massive investment" to do the same amount of work? How would we pay for this "massive investment, more staff and manageable workloads?"

There's a lot of naivete as far as what Royal Mail would actually do if everyone started "doing the job properly" and resultant labour costs suddenly increased dramatically. I know from experience what they wouldn't do and that's shrug their shoulders and get the cheque book out.

If we all stuck to the rules we would probably already be on Amazon style terms and conditions, it's the only way the business could keep the cost per item down.
Lets have a look - Cut off = work doesn't get done
Stop overtime = work doesn't get done

RM want the work doing = No choice except to invest otherwise they fail

It's not rocket science!
CUT OFF!!!

RM want the work doing but not at a prohibitively high cost so they can't invest more more to produce the same revenue otherwise no profits as our profit margins are already very tight and no profits means no dividends.
Shareholders want dividends.

If your business model suggests that you need to invest in labour to the point that you can no longer make a profit what it really suggests is that the current business model doesn't work, the only solution is to change the business model, in this case to a low wage, predominantly part-time business.

You're right it's not rocket science, it's economics 101.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Totally agree

People need to get their heads round the fact now that Royal Mail is no longer a public service operating as a government department. It is now a PLC so it is a totally different ball game. There is no longer a bottomless pit of taxpayers money to throw at it.

Shareholders and profits are now priority number one.
