Hi, I was hoping you guys would be able to give you opinion on a special delivery parcel that has not arrived at the destination as yet (SE081134288GB).

It was posted Yesterday in Edinburgh (11:55am) and is going towards Southampton.

It shows as having left Edinburgh around 8pm last night and making it's way to Southampton.

It hasn't been scanned in at Southampton as yet and when I called them they say they have bags outstanding but nothing from Edinburgh. I also called Edinburgh and they said that if it's showing as left there's not much more they can do.

Is it normal that these can get delayed or is there any problems anyone knows of that could be delaying it?

Special Deliveries should be scanned at every point of transfer between MCs and DOs.

Something has gone wrong as even if Southampton missed their scan it would/should have been scanned at the Delivery Office on acceptance.

The good news is that as Royal Mail have not fulfilled their service you are entitled to at least a full refund on postage, and perhaps more depending on the cover you got.

I would contact Royal Mail Customer Services as soon as possible, they can then start the investigation into what happened. Hopefully, it will turn up tomorrow but you are still entitled to a refund if it does.

Thanks, appreciate you taking the time to post.

The guy at Southampton said he didn’t think it had got as far as there. Wondering if it maybe got delayed as it left Edinburgh after 8pm and it’s an 8 hours drive by car so imagine me it must be 10 hours or so by lorry and factoring in stops.

I don’t think it would have flew as from what I can tell there are no flights between Edinburgh and Southampton?

Hopefully will turn up tomorrow - took compensation up to 2k. Bought online and prepaid but notice my receipt shows a lower valued as the pre pay amount - doesn’t look like she has added the additional insurance on (i mentioned it at the time) but have the insurance receipt from online too

Royal Mail have their own aircraft so it is possible that it "should" have been boarded on an aircraft.

Compensation up to £2000: is that consequential loss cover or cover for market value? And does the receipt reflect one type of cover but not the other?

As the item arrived late you can claim from RM. You can definitely claim the amount you paid: you might have to use the online receipt to prove what you paid. If you paid for consequential loss cover and you can prove receipted expenses related to it being late then you can claim for that too.
