Please help, how much time for return to sender
Hi all, I had sent a special delivery to a customer but had the wrong address, the item was rejected and there is no visible return address on the package. I have since spoken to Royal Mail and arranged for it to be delivered back to me. I do understand that it goes to the NRC then is opened securely to verify a return address or any other information needed to get it back to the sender. My question is if anyone knows how long the whole process can take, It has been a month so far.

H - the NRC deal with literally thousands of items a day. Even more so this time of year. If your communication
about your package did reach the NRC from RM Customer Services, who knows how long it will take. I don't think
there's a specified timescale.
Sorry to say but the worst case scenario - be prepared to accept that despite what RM Customer Services might have
arranged with you over the phone, the NRC might have decided that the return addressee can
not be positively identified from the contents of the packet/parcel and it might be selected for secure destruction.
See the link below, they get approx tens of thousands of items a day to identify. I obviously don't know
what's happened to your item for a fact but wouldn't be surprised.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... -week.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If this is the case don't think you'll be eligible for compensation either (extract from RM Compensation Policy for SD items).
A summary of exclusions where compensation will not be payable for loss is set out below.
Compensation for loss will not be payable:
11. where Royal Mail has destroyed, dealt with or disposed of an item at its discretion under any section
of the relevant schemes made under section 89 of the Postal Services Act or in accordance with other legislation;
12. where the item is one of the following,
an undeliverable or return to sender item;
Only thing I can suggest is contacting Customer Services again and refer to your previous phone call. See if they know anything.
