Help with special delivery please

Post by halogodnik »

Hi all, I have a quick question, I have a special delivery coming back to me as a return to sender, accidentally there was no return address on the envelope. I have contacted royal mail with the tracking number and have given them my details so the envelope can be returned to me, my question is if they still have to open it to look for an address as I have already told them there will be no info inside. Does anyone know the policies as far as my situation and if they are required no matter what to look inside for an address?

The other thread that you posted this query on https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... =6&t=82904" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
had answers based on the experience of a few posties, but none of it can be taken as gospel as none of them are involved
in your particular case (and this is not an official RM site).

From the info you have given how can Royal Mail know based on (I'm assuming) a telephone call that the parcel actually
was sent by you without a return address? You may have the receipt for the initial posting of the item but to
my mind that doesn't prove ownership, it proves you've got a receipt for an item that was posted.

You've said yourself there was sensitive info in the parcel so RM no doubt have certain procedures to follow
to identify the sender in cases like this to ensure that sensitive info or valuable items are not returned to an unauthorised person.
If that means opening the parcel, it means opening the parcel.

What does your tracking number say? - it should indicate the items route and current location.
