I send package via royalmail every day and I had receive "item not receive" complain every month for a few months. then I find out all the lost package are send with the same size post bag with the same kind of item inside. they are very small, very flat, very light weight item that pack in a 13cm by 20cm grey plastic bag. later on, I use paper envelop instead of the grey plastic bag to send same kind of item. I haven't got any complain of "item not receive" anymore. So, I wonder if packaging material will effect the chance of lost packages.
if I send a thin and light weight package. will it be a high chance for postmen to lost it in a big bag of mails? Should I avoid using small envelop as well? I recently bought some envelop that is 10cm by 10cm. will it be too small and will it be lost easily? do you have any other advice to decrease chance to lose mail? Maybe do not send anything before and after big holiday when the post office are way too busy?

None of the things you mention should make a difference.
However
Sticky labels often fall off plastic bags. You are more likely to get a problem because the address label has fallen off than because Royal Mail has actually lost it. If I send something in a plastic bag, which I sometimes do for eBay sales, I always write the address on with a permanent marker and I have never had a problem. If you have to use sticky labels for the address, use paper envelopes or jiffy bags with a paper outside.

These envelopes are too small to go by international mail, see this webpage:mrshouhouland wrote:I recently bought some envelop that is 10cm by 10cm. will it be too small and will it be lost easily? do you have any other advice to decrease chance to lose mail?

I thought that there was a similar minimum size for UK mail but I can't find that information at the moment.
