Foreigner here - need some help... with your stamps!

Post by Maserdom »

Hi everyone!

I'll try to keep this short (and free of grammar mistakes, since I'm italian). I need to send a bunch of papers to the United Kingdom and enclose a Self Addressed Envelope for the reply.
Sending the envelope itself to your Country is just a matter of walking in one of our Post Offices, getting my wallet raped for any delivery that's supposed to take less than an eternity, and waiting. Prepareing the aforementioned SAE is MUCH WORSE.
Since the first route I thought of, aka the International Reply Coupons, proved to be extremely unreliable, I'd like to humbly ask for help. Pretty please...

From what I understood, judging by the Royal Mail website, if I want to prepare a SAE that could weight as much as 500g, I need to pay £5,15.
Would it be fine if I bought online a handful of £1 pound stamps (http://shop.royalmail.com/content/ebiz/ ... medium.jpg) and plastered SIX of them on the envelope? I know there are £1,15 stamps, but they are sold as 25x sheets, and it would be ridiculously expensive.
Would the extra £0,85 be a problem, or the Royal Mail doesn't care as long as I paid enough to cover the fees? Also: since it must be sent to Italy, I suppose the envelope should sport the "Air Mail" blue sticker, yet... where the hell are you supposed to get it? Is it necessary? Does it do anything at all?

Thanks in advance for you patience, everyone! Any help will be much appreciated!

Yes, it would be fine to over pay in stamps, Royal Mail don't care.

You can just write Airmail on the envelope, or use an Italian sticker (see your local Post Office).

I'm not sure that you can even cash International Reply Coupons in the UK anymore. We stopped selling them about 4 years ago.

Many thanks for your reply!

Since the Royal Mail Shop doesn't sell its products outside of the UK (damnit...), in the end I had to hold my breath and let my wallet be raped by a reseller on Amazon.co.uk.
Sigh.

Your English is very very good, well done Sir. I liked the Ape song in Eurovision and I also like your documentary Inspector Montalbano. Addio.
