We have become exactly what RM management desire, which is divide and conquer. We've seemed to have forgotten what being in a union means. This is playing straight into RM's hands. Without the CWU we are about to lose everything. There is absolutely no doubt about this.
No One wants to strike and lose income,RM know this as do the CWU.
RM management have to be held accountable for what has happened to this great British icon. Are we,as a workforce, willing to be slated as overpaid, lazy and under performing? If you feel that this is a perfect description of you,sit back and take it.
There are 10000s of others who are, constantly, harassed,'bullied, integrity questioned etc. Enough is enough.
Though do not slate others for buckling under pressure from management.
The CWU should be doing a hell of a lot more,I agree, but when management get off scotfree after grievance after grievance gets swept away. It is disheartening. But please stop attacking your fellow workers.
I will resolutely stand with those who aren't afraid of doing a hard day's work. Unfortunately, there are too many of our colleagues who are frankly bone-idle and have no interest or pride in their work. In my experience at Royal Mail over the years these individuals DO hide behind the union and take great pleasure in boasting to all and sundry "can't touch me or I'll get the union onto you" etc etc etc. They are always the "victims" of "bullying and harrassment".
I have said it before and I'll say it again. The sooner Royal Mail gets rid of these 'do the bare minimum' colleagues and employs staff who actually want to work and can turn up on time in the correct attire and not swan in and out the premises for cigarettes every quarter of an hour, the better for everyone.
When I hear these lazy shirkers moaning because they were '10 minutes over' yet have no qualms with swanning off home an hour and a half early another day or standing around gossiping with their fellow shirkers while the grafters in the office do all the IPS, it really does hammer home the need for real change at Royal Mail.
No other company would tolerate these antics from their employees. Like it or not we all have to increase our productivity and work all our paid hours. Job and finish is the root cause of these lazy, sloppy attitudes so you cannot fault Royal Mail now for wishing to remove the slack that has existed all these years.
Industrial action will have zero public support especially if foisted upon our customers in the run up to Christmas. Like the coal industry, we are an industry in decline and unless we act fast to make our brand the best it can be and exploit and grow our parcels markets we face certain oblivion. So instead of throwing pointless tantrums about whether to down tools or not we should be facing up to some hard truths about the extent of change needed to secure the future of our industry.
