The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

office reps ?
Where I work no-one wants to be the rep - so its fallen to me.clashcityrocker wrote:Why would we have no reps?jetblack wrote:

You say we need a suitability test - problematic and off putting.
You say also there should be a 50% mandate - TBH we've now got a national governement in power with only 42% of the vote - and only 70% turned out. So in real terms they got 29% of all voters.
And you think a man/woman volunteering for trouble should need 50% ?
We'd have no reps.

You make it sound like it is a hardship for you.jetblack wrote:

If you don't want to do it, then don't. The area rep assumes responsibility for the office.
What do you think happens in offices with no reps?
Yes a suitability test would be difficult .....but so what. Not forever by still waters .....
There was a situation a few years back where a BNP organiser was the rep. Acceptable?
If there is only one candidate s/he should be asked to stand against a cuddly toy and not simply assume the role.
If they cannot get more votes than a cuddly toy, what right do they have to represent the workforce?
Elected unopposed is undemocratic. And quite frankly embarrassing in an organisation that claims to be democratic.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Well, I'd prefer to go fishing if thats what you mean. But as I see it, my doing it is a form of participatory democracy.clashcityrocker wrote:You make it sound like it is a hardship for you.jetblack wrote:

What if no-one wants to be area rep ?
Whats needed is more people to put their heads above the parapet as TBT put it - not having to jump through hoops.
You've kind of made my point for me there clash.clashcityrocker wrote:If there is only one candidate s/he should be asked to stand against a cuddly toy
