Firstly I shall apologise if this has been asked before I don't seem able to use the search function.

I sent a letter signed for on the 29/5 that has been returned to me with the address crossed out and Gone Away written on it.

Can someone please clarify what this means, i.e. If recipient is away, no longer at address (which I would of thought would be covered by not known at) or if the letter was refused by recipient.

It's a personal important letter and don't want to send again if recipient has moved

Thank you x

Recipient has moved./is no longer living at this address. 'Not known at' may have covered it but either the current householder or regular postman knows that the addressee did once live there even if they are no longer.
