You have answered your own question.astrobatz wrote:Well as it happens I've been paying in for 10 years and buying extra years on top of that.
If we are to get career average how will that effect the extra years I've been buying?
The whole thing stinks and needs to be rejected. :lfo :cfo

looks like a buy to let flat maybe the only option as at least the lump sum will probably pay off the mortgage when you retire.astrobatz wrote:I'm thinking it might be better to come out of the Royal Mail pension alltogether and start a private one.
I'd loose whatever bit Royal Mail pays in, but at least I'd have full controll of what I've paid in.
Comments please.

dont panic anything you have under the old scheme is completley safe and cant be touched. Those benefits stand no matter what happens going forward.
OSIRIS dont pull out of the rm scheme. even if they introduce the new scheme it's still better than a private pension. That my friend would be the very last resort

Does anyone here honestly believe this is the end of the pension robbery. Whenever you joined ,to plagiarise a little, the pension was the pension; now it's not the pension.
Five years down the road following a mass purge of time served workers with maybe 40,000 less employee contributions ditto employer contributions RM will return and raid our pensions even more savagely. this agreement will be shredded and 'commercial reality' will dictate massive pension cuts.
Who will strike to save your so called guarenteed pension rights, not the new employees with no such benefits, why should they.
You will be left as a powerless rump completely vulnerable to all and any attacks
