Of course it won't, the booklet is a summary it will not hold every single agreement SSOW or what ever, that would mirror war & peace.

A few guys prefer to wear earphones and listen to their own music in the delivery office (rather than out on delivery) because it prevents them from being pestered by line managers into doing any extra indoor work regardless of it being on the work plan or not.

Its far easier to prep your own frame and pretend that you can't hear the lino shouting everyone up to walk sort when you are wearing earphones. A DOM could try and force them to stop wearing them on the grounds of health & safety, but unfortunately the earphones then go in one ear and (left) out on the other

The actual headphones are the difference. A risk assessment has been made and they have banned them probably considering them a distraction. A deaf person wont have music distracting him.

The simple issue for this thread is someone asked is there a rule banning headphones - Yes there is.

If you think the ban is daft then ignore it - you now know the consequences if caught.

Of course no one has ever been killed or distracted for a second wearing them have they ?

I'm neither for or against wearing headphones I wear them occasionally, but people are killed in accidents when wearing headphones.

The paper, which was headed by Richard Lichenstein of University of Maryland, Baltimore, warned that wearing headphones leads to a lack of awareness of your surroundings and lowers the resources the brain devotes to external stimuli.

Point taken. My God, without headphones on my walk this job would be even more demoralising! But I will still wear mine outside. (Not driving).
