Missing returned item

Post by Glenn59 »

I've been waiting for a package to be returned that GLS passed back to RM on 2/2/17 and I'm now told it could be at the International Mail Centre in London. But I'm guessing RM have lost it. It's a tracked and signed for one too which shows their service is not very good.

No way of contacting this mail centre to ask, so looks like a county court claim to cover replacing the missing items, £500

My tracking number is RN308032988GB

As you are suggesting legal action may be taken, I think it would be unsafe for anyone on this unofficial site to comment any further beyond that your tracking is showing all the signs of being delayed by Customs in the UK. Although its an EU to UK movement there are still checks that Customs sometimes do. In fact, most of the customer questions on this forum are similar to yours.

well I feel I'm left with little option as nobody so far has actually come up with any response as to where this package is. Hardly blame me for feeling like I do. It would be decent if your company actually helped customers over matters such as this.

The fact you do NOT wish to respond doesn't help does it

We aren't Royal Mail, and you threatened legal action.

As a private individual, I am not going to put myself in legal jeopardy. I have tried to help as much as we can, in fact I have given you the same answer I give to every customer who registers and posts similar questions. If thats not enough for you, fair enough, there is nothing else I can do.

I certainly would not be looking at legal action against you. I'm just angry at how RM don't seem bothered about customers.

Please don't take my comments as being aimed at you

so, is there any way of contacting customs? All I want to know is where this parcel is and roughly when it will be returned to me.

No there is no way of contacting Customs as the staff actually clearing the items don't have any numbers available for customers to contact them on. Unfortunately, Royal Mail can't give you a rough estimate either, for the same reasons, they are at the mercy of Customs and how quick they process it, much as you are.

just unreal how a company can lose tracked items so often. shoddy service really, and at a premium rate too

There is nothing in your story above to indicate that Royal Mail have had it in their possession on the return leg, so blaming them for loss is downright unfair. Every indication is that it is held up by HM Customs, a law enforcement agency. What you are doing is the equivalent of buying a Porsche then blaming Porsche for the police imposing a temporary speed limit of 50mph, thus making you late.

Tracked items are rarely lost, though they might sometimes be late quite late.
