Parcel stuck at heathrow

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

At Christmas - yes. Our workload traffic increases 3 fold, most especially as and when the different posting dates approach for each region of the world.

Also it appears as though there have been technical issues with the tracking system over the weekend, it may be that it has happened again. Certainly there are facebook posts intimating that even the scanning system was overloaded today. Although this is only rumour and may not be true.

With no tracking number given its impossible to give any advice as we can't see the tracking data ourselves.

However, it may just be a case of its been moved to an overflow area which is a rare but not uncommon practice at Christmas when the volumes of mail triple.

Parcel stuck at heathrow

Post by hollieb »

Hi,
I seem to be having a very similar problem to those on this post. I have bought two different parcels from the same company in the US, the first of the two was sent out from the US 26/11 and was apparently received into London Heathrow on 29/11 to which the tracking information on USPS updated to 'your item departed a transfer airport in HEATHROW, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM on November, 29, 2016 at 12.26pm. The item is currently in transit to destination' my tracking number for this parcel is LZ192573844US. I have contacted the sending to ask them if they know why my parcel reached the UK 10 days ago but i am yet to receive it to which they told me to contact the postal provider here being Royal Mail who have told me they have no received reciept of this parcel so from reading on this post i thought maybe it would be held in customs; however, my 2nd parcel which has the tracking number LZ195469046US got into the UK on the 6/12 and has already been through customs as Royal Mail have informed me of a customs charge through email so does anyone know why the second parcel that reached the UK 10 days ago hasnt updated yet the parcel that reached the UK 3 days ago has been through all the stages?
Thanks, Hollie

customs charge through email
Thats ringing my alarm bells, Royal Mail very very rarely communicate via email and there is a set process for Customs Charges and that normally via a grey card.

Check and make sure its not a scam, if it isn't how did RM get hold of your email address.

However, just to state not all items are checked by customs, only a sample are. Thats why some get through fast and others take ages, they can even be in the same batch, its all pot luck I am afraid.

Parcel stuck at heathrow

It was only through email as I had messaged regarding the whereabouts of both parcels as I was worried they'd been lost so they told me that the second one would be delivered in a few days as it has accumulated custom charges.
Thankyou for your reply, I just hope the first parcel is in customs and hasn't got lost anywhere else in the preocess!

Parcel stuck at heathrow

Post by author88 »

Hi

Good posts on this thread ....and I'm also pleased to see that they are being replied to :)

I have the same problem as many in that my parcel from the US has been delayed. It was a painting I won in a Charity Auction and sent First Class Insured post via USPS on the 27th December, it is now 17th January and I have had no update where my parcel is.

Thank you to the contributors on this thread as I can now understand that it is probably held up in UK Customs (hopefully!)

But this has only slightly put my mind at rest as a couple of months ago I was waiting for a parcel from Australia. Assuming the same thing, a Customs Delay, I waited and waited for a letter, but none came. My tracking status just showed it had arrived in the UK. I didn't know then that Parcelforce would be delivering it, but entered the tracking No. into the site on a whim. It was in the system so I rang them and was told a letter had been sent to me requesting a Custom Charge. I asked them if I could pay now but they said I needed the number generated on the letter! But when i told them that I had no letter yet they very kindly agreed to put me through to my local depot, though couldn't guarantee I'd be allowed to do it over the phone without the number in the letter. Luckily I was able to and I paid the charge and got the parcel.

The letter didn't arrive until some time later (weeks) when a neighbour was passing and remembered to bring the letter with her! This is the scary part ...the Postman had inadvertently delivered the letter to someone down the street!! I don't know this neighbour and It was only their goodwill that I got the letter at all ! If they had just binned it or put it back in the system I may never have got my parcel. I believe there is a 'time frame' to pay the charge!

So I would say to anyone as a tip ...Check the Parcelforce tracking system for updates too. I don't know if Parcelforce now deal with all the parcels (?) in the past I have had items brought to the door by UPS uk and paid the charges on delivery (I hope its Parcelforce only now as UPS charges were extortionate and they added the cost of the Clearance charges, and I had already paid for a door to door delivery on that item to the sender, UPS UK are rip off merchants!)

BUT ....I am very angry that there is a distinct lack on the part of UK Customs not to scan the items in as 'Received' when they are holding mail for clearance. And then scan them as released, and to which Courier. Having only a notice on USPS site saying 'In Transit To Destination' causes a great deal of concern ...and a waste of precious time trying to solve the mystery!

I understand only now from reading other posts that the last update on USPS is that they have handed the mail over to Customs. I didn't know this before. It is a very vague system for those of us who don't understand the processes. I'm also angered as I paid a lot of money extra for premium postage and it is taking just as long to go through the process as someone who has paid a standard rate! Plus, what the hell do we do if the Postman 'inadvertently' delivers the letter to a neighbour...or the letter gets 'lost' in the system??? Then we have no clue what to do! At least if we could have a 'released to (named) courier update' on the USPS or whoever's tracking system, we could do our own detective work and locate the parcel better. Relying on a letter to arrive ...that may never arrive ...is a fallible link in the system that needs to be addressed.

I hope everyone on here has got their parcels ...I promise to put an update on here when mine does eventually arrive!

Parcel stuck at heathrow

Hi TrueBlue Terrier,

Just read your post on another thread about a trailer fire at the Parcelforce hub on the afternoon of Dec 30th. ...You know the timescales. Below is the last information I have on my USPS tracking search ....Please, please can you put the fire out on my fears that my parcel could have been on board that trailer!! I'm assuming from other posts on this thread that my parcel would be taken from Heathrow to be processed at the National Hub (?)

Your item departed a transfer airport in HEATHROW, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM on December 30, 2016 at 11:47 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

December 30, 2016 , 5:19 am In Transit to Destination
December 29, 2016 , 5:42 pm Departed LOS ANGELES, UNITED STATES December 29, 2016 , 8:41 am

If you think there may be a likelyhood my parcel could have been destroyed ...how will I know? ....I mean, How long should I wait for a First Class Insured parcel to be released/delivered if it was posted on the 27th Dec in the US and arrived in the UK on the 30th Dec ?

I would really appreciate any insight
Thanks in advance :)

Mail stuck at Heathrow

Post by dejay1788 »

Hi,

I've seen quite a few of these type of threads through Google search regarding parcels being stuck at Heathrow but most don't have any replies regarding if the issue has been resolved which is a little concerning. I have a package due from the US which as been stuck at Heathrow since Jan 8. The tracking # is CJ458328802US and it's worth around £400 - I fully expect to pay the import duty on this package but I'm just wondering how long the hold up might / could be?

Mail stuck at Heathrow

Post by Snaggletooth »

We only really know what we hear from customers: and as you rightly say, there hasn't been much end-to-end feedback recently. If you feel like it you could always take the tracking numbers from old threads and see how they did.

One potential problem with a £400 parcel is that it will need the fairly rare CN23 customs form, which if it is coming via Royal Mail is pretty rare, liable to be messed up and a likely cause of delays. Hopefully the sender is well versed in this process as that's the best defence against problems.

Parcel stuck at heathrow

Post by skiandu »

I had a parcel sent 10th Jan from US via USPS tracked as arrived in Heathrow on 12th Jan. It has been sat there ever since.
Thanks to everyone who have commented, but I have a problem in that I contacted Customs and they do not have it, so I have the same message as everyone else on this thread.

Can anyone help me find a contact number in Heathrow to find where my parcel is? If Customs do NOT have it, and its tracked to UK on USPS then where is it? It has been stuck in Heathrow since 12th Jan. The tracking number CX204500775US
