Incorrect postcode but sorting offices aren't very far apart

Post by gb221 »

I stupidly put my old flat's postcode but my current flat's address on 2 parcels earlier this week. They were both posted 1st class so by today I was wondering where they were and then I realised what I'd done... The old flat was in G11 and the new flat is in G3, geographically the sorting offices are pretty close to each other. I'm also pretty certain neither package has a return address but I can't be sure. What will happen to my packages and is there anyone I can contact to expedite the process?

If you included the district in your address it should only delay it slightly as the MC will send it to the post code on the parcel. At that office someone will see the district and forward it on to the correct one.

If you don't have the district on the parcel then it lessens the chance of it being redirected successfully, as you would have to be lucky enough for someone at the G11 office to recognise it should have gone to G3.

If it doesn't turn up by early next week then ring Customer Services and advise them of the problem. All undeliverable parcels get sent to a place we call the RLB who try to investigate them and find the sender or intended receiver. If you call Customer Services with a description of each parcel and the contents then there is a fair chance that the RLB will see the report and send the items on.

Sadly no district just my name, street address, and city. I'll keep my fingers crossed that someone hopefully realises but I'm not holding out too much hope. Cheers for the quick reply though.

Anybody know of a way I could get the number for the G11 sorting office? I've tried google but it just returns a general customer help line that wasn't much help :confused

That won't help either I am afraid. On average as office deals with literally tens of thousands of items daily, sometimes 100,000s, so it would be nearly impossible to be lucky enough to speak to someone who will handle your particular parcels. Also as the call goes through to the Callers Office, not to where the sorting happens, and they usually open after the sorting starts, that delays and complicates the situation further.

There is one last resort, you could fill out the on-line query form, that may be more successful than Customer Services: https://royalmailemailform.datasquirt.c ... actUs.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
