Special delivery guaranteed - not delivered

Hello
I posted item yesterday (19.12.) by Special delivery guaranteed and it failed to arrive today. Item was going to Montrose . Tracking AF604073319GB
The tracking says:
19/12/16 21:22 ITEM COLLECTED LONDON CENTRAL MAIL CENTR
19/12/16 16:52 SENT AT POST OFFICE 6 Arnott Close SE28 8BG

Recipient stayed at home all day and never received a parcel. I called RM several times, they offered to refund my postage , which is £11. I used Royal Mail for delivery around the globe and never had any problem. I am really worried that RM lost parcel. How often it happens with Special delivery?

Less than 1% of Specials go wrong - and going wrong includes lateness as well as loss. It is much more likely to be late than lost. The official statistics show that Special Delivery is the most reliable service in the industry, more reliable than the private companies' services.

I am really frustrated. Still no update of tracking? Where this box,(which is more than 1 kg) could actually disappear?
And what "ITEM COLLECTED LONDON CENTRAL MAIL CENTR" actually mean? Did they collect it from the post office? Or Mail center?

"ITEM COLLECTED LONDON CENTRAL MAIL CENTR" - means that a Mail centre worker scanned it at that time.

Now for some strange reason its turned up in Edinburgh today. Is it going somewhere in Scotland. If so it should (fingers crossed) turn up tomorrow (unless its an exempt area in the Highlands or Islands)

Edinburgh MC handles the mail for Montrose so should be delivered tomorrow
