Hi,
I'm sending some small items (hot chocolate sachets and tea) in a large letter outside of the EU as a Christmas gift for a friend, and I'd rather not put the value of them on the package. First and foremost because they're gifts, but I'm also not sure I really know what to value them at. The total is definitely below £10 though.
Customs wants to know the value so they can figure out if any tax needs to be applied, right? Surely if I write what's inside the box on the form they'll know the items can't be above the limit for what needs to be taxed? Or is there some other reason I need to state the value of the items?

If it's not possible to leave the box blank, could I put something like "<£5" or "<£10" next to the items?

Canada is probably the most strict country in the world with respect to customs and other postal regulations.
In general, not adding a value is just going to delay your item, and it's already rather late.
