Postal order p58 form

Hi I sent off an application to the dvla with a postal order enclosed about a month ago. I have contacted the DVLA who say they have no record of it. I then contact the Royal Mail and the Post Office who advised me to fill out a p58 form. The people at the Post Office also confirmed the postal order had not been cashed when I gave them the voucher id on the receipt. I need a little advice filling out the form as I have the receipt for the postal order but I did not retain the receipt for when I actually sent the application off to the dvla. Can I still claim for the lost postal order? Any help would be really appreciated!

Yes, you can. A postal order receipt is the only thing that can substitute for a proof of postage. Royal Mail will check the postal order database as part of the lost letter process and refund you if the postal order was not cashed.
