Quite concerning!

Post by cherrydaiquiri »

A few years ago I moved to a little village although the street I live on is on a dead end road at the end of the village. There are only 21 houses on this street.

I used to get the odd letter or parcel delivered to my address that was for another house on the street but I put this down to human error as it only happened at maximum twice a month.

For the last few months however, it's becoming the norm. It seems there is a 50% chance my letters/parcels will get delivered to another house on the street and a 50% chance I'll receive someone elses. Just this week alone there have been 4 wrongly delivered letters/parcels to my house and a confidential letter to me was delivered to another house on the street. It really concerns me as I live next door to the neighbour from hell and I don't want them receiving my mail as I know they won't pass it on.

I have my house number in big white numbers on my gate and my front door and still the postman gets confused!

The final straw came yesterday when I was out and there was a parcel that was put through my letterbox. Surprise surprise it wasn't for me. What made it worse was it was a special delivery item!!!! I am also waiting for a confidential letter today. The post man has already been so I have a horrible feeling it has been put through someone else's door :(

I have spoken to a few others on this street and they have found the same. They are constantly receiving other people's mail or having theirs going to other houses.

1. Complain to Royal Mail on 08457 740 740 (find other methods of contact on their website). Make sure that you include the tracking number of the Special Delivery, this adds some concrete evidence.

2. When normal letters are put through my door incorrectly I put them back in the post box with the following message on them: "incorrectly delivered on [insert date], please try again". This seems to stop the problem in the short term.

Thanks for your reply. I don't have the special delivery number as I just handed it to the proper recipient when I found it. I suppose I could ask them for it though. I expect on this street, if I were to put a misdelivered letter back in the post box, it would end up going to someone else and probably not reach the proper recipient for another good month lol
