'something for you' card returned to sender, but who was sender?

Post by jimlad68 »

Just returned from holiday to find a 'something for you card' that is more than 18 days old (OK, I'm lucky to be on hol for so long!) so can't arrange redelivery and suppose that the item has been returned to sender. I wasn't expecting anything, so can I find out who it was returned to?

I don't think that anybody retains that information. If there is a tracking number on the card, however, you may be able to check what part of the country the parcel came from using track & trace.

Someone who works for RM might be able to confirm this, but Delivery Offices don't always return items as soon as they could. I would try going down there ASAP with ID, you might be lucky.

It may still be in the office waiting your collection. Details of where it has been sent back to should be logged either on the new system that some offices have implemented or in the returns book.

just been to collect and it was returned from my local office earlier today!!!! It seems it goes to some central return to sender section. I have been given a tracking reference which at present just shows:

Latest update: Returned to sender
Your item with reference KX932447324GB is being returned to sender.
27/06/16 07:51 AT DELIVERY OFFICE NORTH SHEFFIELD PDO
07/06/16 12:46 DELIVERY ATTEMPTED NORTH SHEFFIELD PDO

so don't know if when it is returned to sender if it will tell me where it goes to!

The track and trace system does not record the return address, your only chance was if your local sorting office had done it before sending back, some do and some dont (some don't even have the facility to record it) royal mail don't track recorded deliveries to this degree unfortunately

thanks for the info. Got a response from RoyalMail saying:
....... As the item was not collected and did not have a return address it has been processed as return to sender and sent to our National Returns Centre, where our colleagues open the items under secure and confidential conditions to find the information. This process can take some time to complete, so we recommend that senders always put a full return address on the back of their mail, and include a contact name, address and telephone number with the contents.

If we cannot find the sender's address and the item contains goods with a value of £46.00 or less, we will dispose of it to avoid an unnecessary build-up of items at the Centre. I'm afraid we can't keep records of disposals due to the large number of items the National Returns Centre has to handle every day. However, we do retain anything of value, as well as anything sent via our Special Delivery Guaranteed service, in the hope that we can reunite the item with the sender.

With the above in mind, you may wish to submit one of our P58 Lost, Damaged or Delayed Mail forms to claim for the loss. These forms can be submitted online at http://www.royalmail.com/p58" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Upon receipt of the claim form, we will register the details of the loss and then respond to you or the senders accordingly, once our enquiries are complete. We will also be able to consider any claim for compensation you may wish to make, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the service used.
Although rather difficult to claim for something that I don't know exists!

I have asked them if they can't try to send it again, now they know I have returned.
